preamp definitely made the budget mic smoother and more warm but I think I like the sound better without it surprisingly

Why not connect the pro mic to the preamp??

1.the 47 jr without wa73 preamp sounds better than with
2. the tube 47 sound better than 47 jr with the wa73 preamp
3. what would be better? pure 47 jr or pure tube 47?

I don't like 1073 type preamps. Tried lots of different ones.... Just don't like them...

and: would't it make more sense to plug the 47jr into a tube preamp an then compare it to the 47 tube mic?

I found my way to build the vocal chain,that makes every mic soud great: i plug my mic to Studiomaster mixing board ( with 4 band eq ) + FMR Audio Very Nice Compressor + 3 band Exciter,and then signal goes to my audio interface. This signal chain gives not only great results,but even if i want to change one of 3 hardwares in the future,- it is much easier + different gear - different character of the sound. the pro mic sound cleaner, a little bit, but with the preamp you can use a lot of mics, different advantages :D

tube mic for the easy win on singing. the vocal on the tube mic LEVITATES....it glides. it floats in the mix. the other one isnt bad but i would have saved alot of time had i just a tube mic 16 yrs ago lol

I like this type of videos..its interesting that the preamp make a lot of difference to the mic..and if you use better mic with pre will make more difference

Good video but I think it's important that you sing the same words when doing a comparison as the differences in the melodies affect the sound. Not a huge difference between them to be fair and they all sound pretty good.

Standalone mic sounds best

Does it make sense to use wa73 preamp, tube compressor, tube eq with a tube microphone? Or should a solid state/Fet microphone be preferred?

And what if we add the preamp to the pro mic ? :D

I have a wa 47jr but is so noisy i cant use it to record anything. Idk if it just a bad copy but it sucks that it is so noisy

My thought:
Wa47jr+preamp: in your face sound, fast attack
Wa47: more depth, more intimate

Beautiful microphone I have the 47jr . Thick vocals are great. Personally I still use my Sterling ST69 . 10 years old and still tops my WA mic. Really both of those are great and work wonderful. Plus the st69 is cheaper with higher top end quality .

Preamp added effortless overtones, and flattened out the response in a good way. Before It missed highs and was a bit muddy in the lowmids, after it sounded balanced and even a touch controlled, very nice. Really wanna hear the tubemic with the pre now!

Your general video production with music selection is so damn satisfying. I love your cozy close ups, the lights etc. Such an childlike excitement it brings forward to me!

i was shocked when i used wa 47 jr with neve pre... Amazing sounding mic... I love it more than Neumann tlm 103..

Yet still, the 'Budget' mic sounds better than quite a bit of other mics that cost quite a bit more. I appreciate this comparison, but I kind of feel my WA-47jr is conotated as being sub-par.

I don't think ANYONE could tell the difference on a blind test.

I had to choose between the two, I would go with the 47 Junior and the preamp. I felt like the low mid bump the preamp was giving the mic worked better for the style of song that you were going for.

Would you consider comparing the WA73 (especially if you turned on the EQ circuit without using the EQ) to warm audio’s TB12 (Tonebeast) to compare tambres and give your opinion? That would be so incredibly helpful!

All warm audio is good but is all budget (regardless of price) bc it’s all cheaply made stuff. The preamps tho are quite great.

With the pre amp is definitely more warmer but tbh majority can barely tell the difference when mixed🤣 I love the content like usual! Keep making it!!
