I’ll go there for my haircut next time. I went to a Turkish barber near my home recently. He said “wax” ?
I said “ Er, yes”.
He got four lolly sticks out, dipped them in hot dripping wax, then shoved them in my ears and up each nostril. I was deaf and had to breathe like a fish.
By the time he’d finished my haircut the wax had dried around the hairs in my ears and nostrils. The ones up my nostrils came out ok, but he could not get those fuckers out of my ears. He pulled, and pulled, and it bloody hurt, then he put his back into it and there was a ripping sound (I think I screamed ?) and the lolly sticks came out with some blood. Don’t think I’ll be going back there again.

I’m 62. My favorite and most vivid memories are going to the Barbershop with my grandfather and older brother.
I can smell Bay Rum or sandalwood and it takes me right back.
