As a white mage, I always focus on the health of my team before doing any sort of damage. That's kind of the point of the healer, to heal, not damage the enemy, if you want to do damage and heal, go scholar or astro or Red mage.

In the wise words of Jocat's crap guid to healing-
What do you do when the partys full health,
Or even half way up and standing,
DPS the bad guys!
Healers are ment to dps while making sure you don't hit 0 in that order.
