What's your favorite 50mm lens for video (and why)?

So when you use the Viltrox 50mm lens to film the character from wide to close up, you use the AF? Wouldn't it either get the wrong focus or out of focus when the character moves closer?

Don't have a 50mm but I do have 35mm and when in 4k60 it crops near 50mm. Does this count or do I need a true 50mm?

How about a Video Maker's tips... We are beyond using film, yet you keep injecting the wrong term. We are Digital. We make movies, if you like, moving pictures. You are too young to have enjoyed nothing but film like Kodachrome and the abundance of FILM at stores and Kodak everywhere. I miss Kodachrome. But my Sony cameras are giving me rich colorful images much like Kodachrome. Today, I am digital, DIGITAL.

I find it interesting that some filmmakers highly recommend buying such lenses as the 24mm, 35mm, 85mm or 105mm than the 50mm lens. If they can afford those lenses, fine. I can't and won't buy them.

If you had to pick one filter due to budget.. which one would you choose for indoor shots (I shoot mechanic garages) and some outdoor rallies.

Hello! Amazing video of course!!

Just wondering, why not recording with the EF or AF instead of Manuel mode?

Thanks!

Can we use other filters when Using the wolverine magnetic ? if yes, does it have to be magnetic as well or not, and if yes, does it have to be Kase filter or it can be from any brand ? Also, did you notice color shift or vignetting using the Kase ?

Hey Brandon, was wondering if I purchase the wolverine 1,5-9 stops (coming soon as I see available for preorder) vs to get 1,5-5 and 6-9 filters, if money is not a problem, does the 1,5-9 produce the same quality, or there is a "price" you pay by getting just one filter vs 2..I mean there has to be at least a disantvantage like X shadow or something? Thanks

I might be different in that regard , but I really like depth of field in videos, in relation to what you said about video at f9.0 with 50mm lenses :-)
I’m actually thinking of making a documentary only with 50mm

You could draw from scenes in movies you like. Thanks for all the knowledge you’re sharing🤩

Hi! Important gear question...what type of hat do you wear in the Gimbal masterclass videos? 😂 love the style but not sure what to search for 🙂
Btw awesome video, really like the scene breakdown with the motivated movement and layers explanation 🙂

And can't wait for the fusion filmmaking course 🙂

I know you primarily use full frame, but it'd be super helpful for the super 35 recommendations for these great lens guides/tips. I shoot with a FS5 and A6500 primarily and just wonder what you'd suggest to be the "nifty" fifty for those.

Your video content is always great. Would love to see you do a vlog maybe about traveling and surviving on the land as a more nomadic filmmaker. As someone who wants to travel and shoot film I'm always curious how you can go from place to place with just the gear on you your back. Like how does one survive as a filmmaker on the go? if you get my drift. Anyways please keep posting. Iv'e learned a lot from your videos.

I struggle the most figuring out what aperture value to use when filming multiple subjects at once. Like my wife and newborn, one always ends up out of focus and since it's always on the fly I tend to error to closing it down more then a probably need. Of course I would use focus peaking but it's not available in autofocus. Guess I should just shoot wide open and change focus between to two as I intend to lead the eye.

Superb video Brandon, as is all your work. I love the 50 1.2 GM, but the new 50 1.4 GM may be even better for gimbal work as it is smaller and lighter....
