QUEST 3 in DCS WORLD: BETTER than REVERB G2? First Impressions MAX RESOLUTION! | PC VR RTX 4090

I'm using a 4070tI with the quest 3 and it looks good running at 144p res with most settings on high & Ultra. My biggest problem is the use of the controls I found the Virtual Hands bloody awful When I grab the joy stick there is no feeling of actually holding it. Also trying to use other cockpit buttons was not any better, I mean by the time I actually clicked, turned etc. it was all over SPLASH. So, any tips on how to fly in VR would be great.

All i know is daddy linus told me q3 is the go to vr pc headset for the price point at the moment.

Would love to know how it stacks up against the aero. I’ve borrowed an Aero to see if VR is for me before purchasing and it is pretty amazing…but quest 3 might be a reasonable alternative

Why you need 4090 on Quest 3 to get the same result as 3080 on G2?

So you're telling me I need a 4090?? I'm running a 4070ti all max settings with quest 2 and it looks beautiful. You don't think I could run the quest 3 with dame settings?

How about DLSS or Frame generation aint that a thing that you could use ingame and why do you need to set the resolution to 1.5?

The QUEST 3 eats more power from your PC then the G2? That doesn't make since. I have a G2 and a 3060ti card and your saying it would run worse if I matched it? Also is their more compression on the Q3 then the G2 even if you are plugged in?

I've had my G2 for a couple years and like you, I am so over the small sweet spot and lenses. Resolution is great but it's only clear if you get the headset on absolutely perfectly and stay very still.

So is it better or not?

Do you guys think with a Rtx 4070ti 12GB vram, i9 13900k, 32gb ram 4000mt and 27” 2k monitor will run this Quest 3 or I should better get the Q2? Thanks

I 'absolutely' can 'afford' a 4090, 'absolutely' no problem...that doesn't mean I don't 'absolutely' have much better things to spend my cash on than playing games...😂🙄 Absolutely...

I wonder if xr support will become available for quest. That would be a game changer forsure

I don't really understand the first part of the video, why is a 4090 needed for the Q3 and only a 3080 for the G2? I am seeing the resolution of both of them to be roughly the same... I'd appreciate some further clarification since I am interested in getting into VR for DCS

I keep hearing about screen door effect. I've never dealt with that before. The odyssey plus had fantastic lenses. It died last week so i ordered a quest 3 thinking it was probably going to be the best pcvr headset in this price range but between screen door effect and compression artifacts that everyone talking about I'm starting to wish i stayed with a dedicated pcvr headset.

You do not need a 4090... I have a 4070ti and run those settings amazingly

And how is the passthrough to fiddle with all the switch in our home cockpit?

Pico 4 and Quest 3 seems to be pretty much identical in specs, quality and tech for DCS World

Honestly you don't need a 4090, I am running the quest 3 at 1.5x resolution on "just" an rx 6800 (non xt), Ok the experience is not perfect at 45 fps that is interpolated but its very playable and I don't experience any motion sickness as a first time VR user. Also the first time I did a proper air to air refueling in the f16 now. I do just use a regular USB 3 cable though.

The image encoding and transcoding is taken care of by dedicated chips and the loss of negligible amounts of VRAM (especially if you are using VD instead of Link) should not significantly affect performance.

So, do you have anything real to back up your claim that the Q3 needs more powerful cards to deliver the same quality at the same resolution as the G2, or are you just assuming that this is the case?

ima reading very conflicting information here. some people say the quest 3 has a noticeable screendoor effect since the lenses are so clean, that you can see them as good as on the quest 2 even tho the 3 has a way higher resolution, while other people say, they dont see any SDE and say its like wearing an aero or a g2

I am mostly interested in the augmented reality aspect with a simpit cockpit. Whats your opinion on that?

You know that displayport is old last dacade tech right? It's all HDMI today in the '20s! Kiding but serouly those two are locking in a death match for whos the best standard and HDMI is winning last time I checked which was the RTX 30 series...

i got a 3070 and my quest 3 look better at 400mbs wirelessly than my reverb g2 bercause of the lense and the fov but man its wireless

I would like to know if it is possible to use the Q3's MR function to display a VR screen of DCS and MSFS around you, and display the real cockpit equipment at hand.

Please help! I have the Quest 3 512gb(my first VR experience) for a few days already, and I'm mainly interested in PCVR, I'm not really satisfied about the image quality (virtual desktop/dedicated 5G wifi/ 2080ti), does the Varjo aero have a better display or is it clearer That it uses a DP?

I have a quest 2 and quest 3. The q3 has one bright pixel, that i think is actually a lens defect. I dont notice screen door, but i do see mura. The lenses like you say are the main upgrade for pcvr. I also think that night flying is much improved. I am on the fence at the moment if i will return it. For me, displayport and eye tracking / foveated rendering with these lenses would be a killer combo.

I got both a quest 3 and Reverb G2 (v2) on the same day this week, and have tried both on MSFS on a 4090. I tinkered a lot with the settings of the Q3 but cant get anywhere near the clarity of the G2. I use both on link cable as the cable doesn`t bother me when sitting on MSFS anyway. But the augmented reality demo game on the Q3 was very cool

Next time you do a max resoulution video, please upload it in 4K ;)

Your Comparing Apples To Oranges. The Quest Has A Couple More Years Of Tech Behind It (Meaning The G2 Is Old). I'm Still Clueless As To Which I Am Going To Buy.

Do you think the Glare in this is better than the Bigscreen Beyond? Thinking about grabbing a BSB but the glare scares me lol, but I really want to play space sims and what not and OLED is just top notch for those.

Got the quest 3 yesterday, its a nice VR Headset but I wish it had a direct display connection 😕

Can you try using the link cable with 960mbps bandwidth on ODT? (copy and paste 960 onto the bitrate field)

FYI, for the people worrying that they wont be able to use the headset with more normal priced midranged cards, I used my pico 4 with a 3070 for about a year with little issue. I did notice the difference when going from between 2100 and 2500 to 3000x3000, but the fps difference was worth more to me. On the lower res it looked fine and had very usable performance, which differed game to game, lighter running over 90 easy, heavy like dcs running at 35-45 fps.
I think the biggest reason it didnt like high res was the vram, so if you have a card with 12gigs or more you should be good. I will note I upgraded to a 3090 which is running dcs at 3120x3120 at around 60 fps in air, 40fps on the ground with pretty high custom settings. The reason for this is the amount of vram dcs wastes when on the ground as I was flying apache at the time. I wouldve chosen a 3080 if I had bought for a new pc, but since I was upgrading I wanted to go for a bigger difference.

I don't understand, why do you say you can't get the same performance from the Quest when the two have the same resolution?

Would love to see a VD only comparison between the Q3 and the Pico 4 with both a 3080 and the 4090 in DCS, IL2 and MFSF,
regarding lens clarity, contact visibility, SDE, decoding performance and compression artifacts.
