As someone who doesn't do hardcore content, the "Complaining about how people play in casual content is cringe, as long as you clear it's fine" take kills me inside. I've beaten dungeons with one of the DPS just disconnecting immediately. If you're playing as DPS, you're not even necessary, so should we not complain if one of the DPSs just stands at a safe distance from every fight, doesn't press a single button, and does literally 0 damage the whole dungeon? A couple times I've soloed higher level dungeon bosses from like 50% on Warrior when my healers and DPSs all died, because Warrior just has enough sustain at that point. Should I not complain if my entire party just sits down and has a tea party on the final boss, because, hey, we're clearing anyway?

This isn’t the first time that this clown named Mane Tank caused “ drama “ he did that before and got someone to be banned , it feels like watching the same thing

The only way I play is to aggressively heal so that if someone dies, I ain't gonna have it be on me XD

There must be a huge content draught if this is content.....

The best option is to alt f4 after first pull and go do something else. Let them get stuck with more deadweight for at least 5 minutes as punishment.

Main Tank here. Just came back to the game. Once upon a time i lead a top 10 worlds 1st raid clear group back in ARR & Heavensward. This tank sucks. If you're not using your AoE skills with 2 or more mobs. You're a terrible tank, hang it up, go change your class and quit bitchin.

So on the flip side you get those tanks that think immediately they call all the shots and are party leaders. Every one , and its not many, of the people on my blacklist were bossy toxic tanks. Theres a few duty raids where the mobs have weird agro and this one tank went on a 20 min tyraid as im trying to learn BLM. Dude , and i cant stress this enough, its a game. Ive been final fantasy crazy since 1. Yes im that old , but the point is chill tf out tanks.

This actually is the exact situation (tank that can't hold threat due to idiocy) I found myself in that made me decide to take up Tanking (I'm primarily a DPS main).

This happened years ago. Like most people I had already had my fair share of crap tanks and I was starting to get sick of it. The straw that broke the camel's back was during a Haukke Manor run and the tank (Gladiator) couldn't hold aggro. Not only was he not AoE'ing, he didn't even have his tank stance on. This meant that he was not only failing to hold group aggro, but also failing to hold aggro on the mob he was directly fighting. As soon as DPS opened up with AoEs the entire group would just ignore the tank and it'd turn into a clown fiesta.

This was back in the day when Flash was a thing, so as a Gladiator the bare minimum he had to do was pop Tank Stance on and just stand there spamming Flash. He'd be a piss poor tank, but at least he'd technically be tanking. But no, despite asking after each of the first 3 pulls for the tank to at least put on Tank Stance he never did. We had already wiped twice because despite not wanting to actually tank the guy was doing big boi pulls, so after the 3rd wipe I bailed on the group.

At this point I says to myself, I says "Tanking CANNOT be that difficult." So I picked up Gladiator for myself and discovered that GASP! sure enough: Tanking IS NOT that difficult. There's just a lot of fucking idiots out there.

As for the video: insisting that the tank was new despite being in an end game dungeon is just another way of saying "My buddy boosted his character and has no fucking clue what he's doing." See, I don't accept that as an excuse. If you're going to boost, that's fine. If you've got more money than time that's certainly a viable option. When you boost, however, you need to do your homework. Take 30 minutes to read and study your god damn abilities and setup your hotbar in a way that makes sense to you. It really isn't that difficult to learn the concept behind a class if you read through all your abilities. Once the study session is done it's off to one of the 10 billion training dummies in the game (hell, just go into a housing district and start working out in someone's front yard if you have to) to work the kinks out of your rotation until you feel like you've got a good handle on things.

Long story short: there's no excuse for ol' Dickhead Magoo to not know how to AoE.

I always thought that FFXIV dungeons are so braindead that I could do them being super drunk and still finish them without casualties (btw, I'm SCH main and still believe I'm bad at doing my job).

Yah.. i dont agree with the "respect other peoples time" thing. Duty finder is a roulette.... when you press the "find party for me" button, you are subscribing to whatever party members you get.

If you want to run perfect runs, there is party finder so you dont have to subscribe to random party members.

Verdict: The SMN is very much in the wrong here. Even if he thinks the Tank should know better, there are ways to offer advise and constructive feedback to other players. This ain't it.

So...looking at all of this, what LOOKS to have happened was a SMN got a Tank who is probably a sprout running the end-game dungeon for the first time. The SMN ran ahead of the group pulling things, and expected everyone else to take up his slack. Note he doesn't dispute that he ran ahead ("that doesn't dismiss the fact" isn't "no I didn't"), and then complains that the Tank is single target cycling, which somehow isn't getting the SAM killed. Likely because the SMN is face pulling and getting agro on things. (Aside: Provoke is single target, so "guy needs to provoke" isn't a valid counter). "stop running" also seems to indicate either the SMN is running ahead puling things OR he gets agro and runs around like a chicken with his head cut off, which makes it hard for even experienced Tanks to pull off you since they have a harder time targeting the mobs - if SMN is as smart as he thinks he is, he should be running to the Tank, not running around wildly.

The SMN then goes on being a total buttface - it doesn't matter how you think people should act or what level you think they should be playing at, yelling at people to do things is not "constructive" or "helpful" or "advice" - and then his "newer player?!" line is just a cherry on top of butt-ness; brand new players can start the game and get to The Last Day within a month. That's still pretty new, especially since the game doesn't really teach you how to play all that well. He also accuses the Tank of "griefing" when it could be entirely possible the guy is just new.

And then he says what every bully and jerk has said from the dawn of time: "do better and be better", all while being a total B-hole himself.

I kinda buy the whole "He's a new tank" kinda thing because you can get up to level quite quickly nowadays and without doing many dungeons. The hall of the novice dungeons, iirc, do teach you that single targetting in packs is something you should do. So if he's going off of the Hall of the Novice recommendations, then levelling through PoD or trusts, they're never gonna learn the meta that is spam aoe as a tank.

My friend who introduced me to the game is my biggest critic, if I do something wrong he's the first to call me out so I can improve, if you can't even explain to ur friend that they should use their AOE rotation for pulls just get someone else to explain it to them

Had something similar happen in tower of zot, where tank wouldn’t use aoe and party would keep wiping. I should have left but instead I just spammed jolt for the rest of the run since I couldn’t use aoe. Took like an hour

I've played with Ren Tyrant before, I'm almost certain they're a badly programmed bot so there's nothing to bully. They move like a bot, they press abilities in a random order, and eventually they break and stop pressing buttons or using abilities altogether at a certain point.

Wait, a samurai and his tank buddy? SH*T! I MET THOSE GUYS it was around 6 months ago during a storm blood dungeon, our other DPS was fuming in chat while o watched the chaos entail while healing

I'll normally help and tank some of the adds to protect the healer but if they are friends and being a dick to me i'll pull then leave the the packs so the healer takes the agro and force the tank to AOE or let the healer die, had one Aurum Vale run where the tank wasn't grabbing the roaming enemies so they kept getting the healer so I protected the healer but we still wiped and the tank blamed me for "running ahead" but I was running next to them to avoid the roaming enemies, so we went again with the same result and I got blamed again because I kept next to the tank but didn't help the healer this time. Went like this about 7 or 8 times between the bosses.
Then after words exchanged I queued again and got the same tank and DPS and they did it again but this time the DPS had to agree they missed the roaming mob and let the healer die, couldn't see the tanks response cause i blacklisted them but I imagine it was hilarious watching them realise they were the toxic one

Imagine giving tanks double gap closers, aoe ogcds, provoke...and the tank only uses 123 single targets the entire dungeon...I'll die respawn and reset my burst skills if I have to at least I get to spam my opener instead of 1-2 all dungeon...

this shit is why i only do expert roulettes 5 times a week and nothing else in dutyfinder.
you get a tank like that you get told to play tank.
you play tank and get a cure 1 spamming healer, than get told to play healer.
you play healer and gets shit for not healing ppl standing in fire before they tell you to play dd.
you play dd you get mc tank that gets butt hurt for daring to do build more aggro than them.

I remember having a BLM in a dungeon who outright said "I have a disability, I can only play with one arm" and not a single one of us in the party had a problem with waiting and pulling less. and even if a bit slower, they played perfectly fine.

ofc it's just one example, and there are lots of situations, but if there's something like that and it affects the team, they really should've just said it -- especially the ever so vocal "friend"

Trusts exist for this player. If you have tank anxiety, just run the dungeon with the NPCs so you can make all the mistakes you want until you grow confident.

pop shields do AOE seems like simple enough

It should take a new player max 5 min to realize the basic rotations for both aoe and single target in this game, and that is if you dont even look at your abilities after boosting and go straight into dungeon.

Even if boosted this is just stupid. If you are that inept at gaming, you should really just quit. Just griefing and wasting other peoples time at that point.

I personally do be patient for any first timers in a dungeon in case they want to see what everything looks like. I usually heal in dungeons so I get all kinds of tanks. I don't really tell any of them that they can pull as much as they want, but I do this little thing where I move ahead of them a little when they stop on a minor pull as an indicator that they can still keep going. I don't go and pull more packs, but just stand on the edge to where I can heal and not aggro the next pack. It actually works because I can see some tanks hesitate a little wondering if they would be pulling too much for the healers. There are all kinds of healers in this game too, so I get why some would be like that. Usually a tank that hesitates is just trying to be nice, and I have nothing against them.

If you can learn it in the hall of the novice, you shouldn't need it explained to you in the dead ends.
Although if you buy a story and level pass you could potentially miss out on the easiest to digest player intro to job responsibilities.

"What if they can't hit the buttons?" Bro, they're doing the single target rotation, that's MORE buttons.

Whats funny to me is as a tank, is i make sure i get my 1 2 aoe combo on any group i pull before i pull my next group (ex. Total eclipse > Prominence > pull next group > repeat) because i wanna make sure i have full aggro that way the dps can chip away while i grab the next group. I actually remember getting a dps tht kept pulling b4 i could finish so i asked "hey can you wait til i get full aggro before u run off and pull before me?" And only answer i got was "deez nuts" -_-

This reminds of the time the ffxiv twitter mentioned food and pots in a raid and some people lost it.

Like I said, the community has festered, and what was once a selling point has become the reason I no longer maintain my sub.

It's disgusting when I have had better social interactions in WoW, CoD and even fucking LoL than I have in XIV for years.

they know what they are doing and you should be able to report if they on purpose are playing like crap.

If someone didn't learn AOE buttons by the time they hit 80-something, nothing you say will help.
That's why I never tell anything to anyone about gameplay in a dungeon above level 50.
If it's Sastasha you could probably offer some advice, but I wouldn't go over one sentence.

We once had a tank that was turning tank stance on and off like it was part of his rotation. I think it was a kid hitting buttons without knowing what the buttons do and was also too young to read us explaining tank stance wasn't something you turned on and off. But we finished the dungeon anyway. Usually the issue is with healers who don't know how to keep the tank up, and I've told healers exactly which buttons to hit and they hit those buttons, thanked me and we were good. So in that position I wouldn't have pulled ahead and died, or gotten mad and told people off I would have just explained which buttons were AoE buttons for their class and be like "hit those." That would have gone faster than all the name calling and fighting. For all you know you could be cursing out a kid or something.

I played with a bard in 2.0 who was palying with one arm, we never knew but we would still play with them because they were "good enough", once we knew that they were disabled, we were actually amazed on how well they were playing.

So if you can't even play as good as that bard with having two arms, you're just bad player in my eyes.

These sort of players were literally the reason I stopped playing FFXIV. Since anything you did outside your own savage static group you had to deal with people like this, turning me into worst raidlogger Ive been in any mmo.
