I just recently watched all the Harry Potter movies for the first time ever. This is definitely the worst one by a good margin. This movie had some pretty cringe moments. To be fair some of the scenes were ok but not enough.

I think before the quidditch world cup actually began the film was pretty damn good, then the world cup began... And then it ended okay(also btw i think the world cup design in the movie is better except the minister's box i think the book design as i imagined it)

Goblet of Fire is NOT the worst Harry Potter movie. The four later movies were all far worse and much more terrible. Goblet of Fire is one of the best movies ever.

Apart from dumbledors portrayal I personally hate the stereotypical to sexist way the movie handles gender - from the all-male cast of the worldcup players (in the book its specifically mentioned that two of the irish team are women) to the weird all-girl and boy schools like you mentioned, the yule ball in all its stereotypical glory and fleur delacour who is only shown failing and scared (no wonder it didn't pass the bechdel test either). So I completely agree with you: worst harry potter adaptation ever and even without the adaptation part its a terrible movie.

The whole look of the movie alone makes it worth watching.

They did nail the dark shift in tone upon Voldemort’s return to full power. The sudden murder of a teenager just for being in the way, and Voldemort gleefully torturing a 14 year old had audiences dead silent in the cinema I worked at.

I just rewatched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and it was hard to watch. As an avid book reader it was absolutely atrocious. They left out so many important details and dialogue in the book that really gave the story substance and continuity and also made it all make sense in the end. What was supposed to be an emotional and impactful end Is completely overshadowed by everybody smiling and laughing immediately after Dumbledore addresses the entire school about how Cedric died and that Voldemort is back. They don't even have Voldemort explain during the graveyard scene that he has a death eater positioned at Hogwarts. They leave out the scene where Barty crouch is fighting off the imperious curse when he bumps into Harry and Krum and Harry leaves to go get Dumbledore. They leave out the scene where Harry is sneaking out at night to use the prefects bathroom to solve the riddle of the egg, which is really important because it leads to the fake Moody getting the Marauder's map which helps him out when he kills his father. They leave out so many cool and important characters and storylines that make the entire story makes sense and have continuity. I absolutely hate how they leave out the scene where Harry is in the hospital wing and and Dumbledore and Fudge have it out. They leave out the fact that Barty Crouch junior was given the kiss by a dementor before he could confirm his story. They leave out how Barty Crouch junior escaped as van prison Azkaban and is put under the imperious curse by his father and his watched over by Winky the house elf which is pretty important if you ask me. I like in the books how Dumbledore has Harry stay after they give Barty Crouch Junior veritaserum and Dumbledore says that it is important for Harry to stay to hear
Barty Crouch junior confess to how he and worm tail abducted Moody and explains Voldemorts entire plot so that Harry understands why and who is responsible for what happened to him. For goodness sake, they don't even explain how Barty Crouch junior fixed the goblet of fire to accept Harry's name. They leave out when Harry is in the hospital wing and Dumbledore reveals Sirius's identity to Molly and Charlie Weasley and starts to put together the order of the phoenix. They did not show that Rita Skeeter was an unregistered animagus and how Hermione figured it out, which was really satisfying in the book. I could go on and on but I'm only gonna say two more things that really bothered me. Leaving out the entire beginning of the movie by showing about two seconds of the Quidditch world cup. And the entire maze scene was absolutely terrible. The maze and the obstacles in it in the book are really cool, why didn't they just go with that it would have been so much better. Instead they decided to go with scary bushes. I'm sorry, one more thing that bothered me, the movie did not show Harry getting his thousand gallion prize money and giving it to the Weasley twins for their joke shop which is a really good ending in the book. Sorry I just keep remembering so many bad things about this terrible movie and one of the things that bugged the shit out of me was the way Dumbledore acted the entire time. That was not Dumbledore as we know him from the books, that version was completely different from the beloved book version of him. Why don't these actors and directors actually read the books that they are going to be turning into a movie. You would think that would be a pretty important part of getting into charactor as an actor or for a director to know the vibe, spirit, energy, I can't find the exact right word but I think you know what I am trying to say, of the book and in this case, the entire world that has been built around these books. This movie makes me more mad than the rest because it was my favorite book out of the Harry Potter series. I thought the first two movies did a really good job of creating the wizarding world that we all fell in love with when we read the books. They left out a few things that bothered me but all in all I think the first two movies were adapted the best from book to screen.

You can blame Mike Newell for the long hair. In a promo video for the reunion special, Radcliffe was asked about the hair. He said the boys were told to let their hair grow over the break from filming and the expectation was it would be cut/styled when they got back on set. But Newell decided he liked the long hair and made them keep it.
