Sir I am not opposing you,, but our Indian dog are also very much loyal and can sacrifice his or her life for the master,, I have explained it twice in my life,, my grandfather's Desi Dog had saved him from a Poisonous snake and my Indian dog saved me and my mother from falling in a big Hole which wasn't visible..

The sloping back deformity exists because of morons who simply breed for trophies and care nothing for the breed.

Ditto all below our 4 yr old is like a son to us and we are bonded like superglue. please do not get a GSD unless you can bond with them and give them the training and exercise they need they are exceptionally high drive and not only need constant love and affection but good food as well. NOT KIBBLE JUNK.

If you get a GSD get two. Preferably a littermate. They will have a friend they have always known to interact with when you are away and they actually get into less mischief.

after owning four I can say so much spot on information. first rule for me is do what you and the dog want not doing what others say, my home my rules so if you dont like my rules tough. my furniture my rules. be consistent with your best friend as training yourself before training the dog.

For an intelligent, standoffish breed, they’re big soppy idiot cuddle monsters with their owners and people the trust. Plus there’s a reason they’re called German shedders! And ball is life

I had a shepherd mix. She guarded me her whole life. She’d sleep with me or across the threshold of my bedroom. She would give the stink eye to strangers. But she never was aggressive at all. Chewy is an understatement. My mom was scared she’d be knocked down. I taught Darcy to never jump up. For this reason my mom learned to love her. My one pet peeve was her carrying her food bowl to the bedroom to eat. She broke so many bowls. I had to go get plastic. Then she chewed those up. Different bowl, stainless steel this time. Lord she was smart. She was active. She was so bonded to me that I was at our beach house and I was packing. I put her on the front deck. My brother said she’s not letting you leave without you. She’d gone down the stairs and back up the stairs to the back deck so she could see me through the back door glass. She was so bonded but I trained her not to freak out. Separation anxiety is a real thing. She did not have health issues. The was on glucosamine as a preventative. But she didn’t get arthritis until about 13. I had to put her down at 15 due to a possible stroke. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. Do not get a gsd unless you have the time to exercise, feed, brush and train one. They do have to be socialized. I had toy poodles and they helped train her with me. I had a cat as well. Be patient and socialize the GSD.

I’m getting my first German shepherd in November this year, she’s due to be born in 2 weeks time (roughly)! My last dog was a border collie rescue so she’ll be my first dog from a breeder (I was really worried about their common heditary issues so I opted for someone who does full vet clearances and hip and elbow scoring, who breeds straight backed working lines.)

This has been a dream for me ever since I was 6 and I’ve been actively planning for my GSD for 2 years now so I’m hella excited lol

The sloping bit seems to be a bit off the nose - sloping comes from show breed lineage, and if you get a proper working dog breed that doesn't have the assinine hind quarters sloping, you will have significantly less issues as far as hip displasia goes since their hips aren't fucked up for now reason.

Oh my god. Read a cheap book and a video is done. You have no Idea of this wonderful dogs. The most dangerous hint you gave is to tell people that you can train it only with "positive reinforcement ". Look at the shelters there you see the results. "Agressive" titled GSDs which are only reactive and they end up at the vets for their last walk! Only a few trainers are able to "fix+ them because THEY realy understand this bread! It's an older video but it's a dangerous one! Train a GSD like wolf in a pack! Don't abuse them but correct unwanted behavior. Then you will have a loyal partner by your side.
The rest in this video can tell you a child about every bread. Conclusion: useless and dangerous video!

I spend the better part of an hour twice a week to brush my GSD. ESPECIALLY with how hot it's been in the US this summer. She nibbles on my hands/arms when I roll her over on her back to brush her chest and belly to remove hair. Then give her a cold bath. She is the sweetest booboo ever. She sits at the foot of my chair every night and I use her as a foot rest

This is a good video and so true. We've owned 5 GSD's over the years, 4 males and one female and still have a male. They are a wonderful dog if you like to train dogs and give them the activity they need. Due to our age, this will be our last. Oh my, I dread the day we're without a GSD.

Got one from the pound. I work on houses. Mine come to work with me and he likes to sit on the porch with a long tether on. Since I've had him I haven't lost any tools. He guards the tools and materials quite well. I can leave circular saws, drills, tool bags, or whatever right in the front yard. As soon as some crackhead comes on the property that German Shepard goes ape shit. I'll go outside and ask what do you want and the crackhead will just say he was needing directions or some other baloney. Damm good guard dog.

Great dogs, but can be extremely dangerous to other dogs and children even if socialized as a pup. Its hit or miss when bringing a GSD into your family. Proceed with caution!

As a farmer I love this breed. I can tell him to herd the sheep into their pens and not even have to stop what I'm doing. They're also great at sitting and guarding them in pastures. Great for chicken coop protection as well. Keeps the coyotes, and foxes away. By days end they come in tired, eat, then pass out till next morning. These are perfect farm dogs, next to border collies.
