I didn't know this was grohl, but it's in my top "drum songs" so it was a pleasant unsurprising surprise

Also - Dave played this album without cymbals and went back to overdub them, that's why you get such a crisp clean drum tone. no cymbals bleeding into the mics.

Here's a fact and a peice i think you dont know, but Josh Homme grew up playing polka. You latch on to Dave at the beginning giving him that credit but in reality he's latched onto the polka coming out of Josh.

I always felt like QOTSA built songs like techno--riffs built on riffs built on riffs. Where the song feels like it's a loop, but when you focus on it, you realize it almost never does the exact same thing twice.

(also, the bassist is Nick Oliveri. A great bassist, but kind of a bad guy that was kicked out of the band for being a wife beating meth head.)

A song that I think is pretty much perfect and couldn't be improved on.

Are you ever able to listen to music without seemingly torn by tearing the song apart? It looks like you lose the JOY in listening sometimes. And counting. JUST ENJOY.

I remember someone reviewing Josh Hommes style and they said he was taught polka when he was young, but it didn't influence his music. Josh says this song is polka and he tricked us.

The first time I heard this song I remember thinking, it was repetitive, but the drummer was going 100 mph and could probably play in any band. Then I saw the music video and saw Dave Grohl and it all made sense.

Every time I listen to this song I do 2 things ..1 follow the feeling of the Drums .. those fills and off beats hitting right before the end of the measure… thing number 2 is that part always reminds me of “A Day in the Life” by the Beatles when it has that part that goes higher and higher and higher and stops and the bass goes by itself.. like the Drums going in “A Day in the Life” and Paul starts singing “Woke up, fell out of bed band dragged a comb across my head” 😂 funny you brought up the Beatles in the reaction 👍🏻😂

The cymbyls were recreded after the intinail drum take. as an overdub. to get that isolation. dave was hitting either rubber or nothing at all.

One part about Josh Homme's guitar playing style is how much of the polka he learned as a kid still finds its way in. Especially here. He grew up in a small town so the only dude who taught guitar only played polka. So as a result his style grew to be unlike anything I've ever heard.
