Are there different Valsalva Manoeuvres (VMs)?
This one when 'bearing down' to defecate.
A different VM to clear temporary deafness due to Eustachian Tube Dysfunction or to equalise in an aircraft or when diving?
Quite different manoeuvres.
Performing a VM when lifting weights can lead to a elevated intracranial pressure and brain (or was it meninges) bleed.

Thanks. Came across this rather late. Would like to know more about the descending colon because I have a problem there.I have consulted many specialists but none have able to help me. There is a motility issue which causes a great deal of pain almost 24 by 7 as I am unable to push down the faecal matter and gas which stays accumulated. Please can you help in some way?

very very well explained. I am amused by how frank and easily he describes these things yet still refers to a toilet as a bathroom. To European ears there is an uneasy feeling that the person is doing something in the bath. Why cant Americans say WC or lavatory or toilet?After all, there are some bathrooms (more common in the past) without a toilet. Hopefully people are not "going to the bathroom" in those bathrooms!
