I have installed two ABB TerraAC 22kW last week, and my conclusion is that ABB has still a lot to learn and/or fix with this product.
- The connection area is extremely cramped, there is less than 1" between the strain relief and the wire clamps. I used 6mm² wire for the 22kW wallbox and it got extremely uncomfortable to fit in there. Considering the box is specced for up to 10mm² wire, I can't see how this is supposed to work without breaking your fingers.
- It's highly complicated to acquire a TerraConfig account which you need to configure basic operational parameters of the box. There doesn't seem to be any link on the official TerraAC website, I had to jump through several support teams to get signed up. Why a config app for an end user product needs an account /at all/ is beyond my understanding.
- There is no public documentation about the RS485 connection and protocol, as well as the Dry Contact input and output, and even contacting the support team via the website could not provide me with such documentation. Still, those features are listed in the advertisement brochure. It's not even mentioned in the TerraConfig app.
- There is no operator manual besides how to hang it to a wall. I have wasted literal days to find out how to make the box work with custom (non-ABB) NFC cards. The brochure lists "uses Mifare cards" as feature, but by default it accepts only ABB-branded cards, which is not mentioned anywhere.
- It would be nice if the box had at least a basic Web interface where you can get statistics and start charging. Currently, the network part of the box is woefully under-used.
- The brochure also lists load-balancing as a feature. There is no info how to configure this. I assume it needs a RS485 link between the boxes?
