ОтветитьWe must and you must put a subtitle ENGLISH is the universal language .
ОтветитьI always wondered this, like how come in some movies or shows, I needed subtitles but in my younger years I didn't, I always thought I was going def due to well one thing or another.
This answers a lot, a number of characters mumble at times but the issue is, older shows and movies, when a character mumbles and when the audience is meant to hear it, its usually low and guttural yet audible.
However when its not for the audience, its still there, but to make you curious, but I ask, are studios getting cocky, complacent?
I don’t need subtitles we are not the same.
ОтветитьJokes on you I've been watching with subtitles on for years, because sometimes I like to eat chips while I watch.
ОтветитьI have a 5.1 surround sound system. Watching movies is a battle of constantly adjusting the volume. I feel like the conductor of an orchestra
ОтветитьSo it really is the fault of the actors
ОтветитьTreble. This is the issue. Do a video on this, solely this, and you can milk an hour or more.
ОтветитьBecause I have ADHD (for real). That’s why. Not sure other peoples reasons.
ОтветитьAnd here I thought we, foreigners, were the only ones struggling to understand the mumbling. 😅
ОтветитьWith all the improvements in film media why are music scenes in movies always too loud and dialog too quiet?
ОтветитьWait people use subtitles??
ОтветитьNolan is too enamored with post production gimmicks. Light flares, audio layers. It's like a taco with 5x too much salt to the point where it's no longer tasty. He likes it that way. But he isn't making 200 million dollar movies for himself. He's making it for the audience. He needs to care about the audience experience more and his self pleasuring less.
ОтветитьThere's something wrong with your poll.
Only 2% of people responded with "Yes, I am deaf or hard of hearing."
The percentage of people who have some hearing difficulty is waaaaaaay over 2%.
Your poll seems to be selecting for a very specific, young demographic.
For the record, the line about only being able to differentiate music/sound via eq etc once digital came round is of course completely false - EQ has been available on tape and other mediums almost since the birth of recorded audio.
Also, volume has nothing to do with vocal clarity - I don't know why they're even talking about it.
Lastly, they completely miss the fact that most films/tv shows used ADR (post-filming dialogue replacement) until it became easier not to do so. This is the main reason dialogue is less audible.
Makes me wonder what else they got wrong here.

Is it just me using subtitles to watch this?
ОтветитьPeople, who watch movies on smartphones should be jailed.
Ответитьor 4... Why make a mix for 128 channels, when in practice 99.99% of all playback will be played in regualr setreo or maaybe 5.1......????
ОтветитьActors can’t talk good
Ответитьhuh, so it turns out my hearing is not impaired
Ответитьi've never had an issue. i use subtitles when i have to have low volume. i think too many people use the wrong speakers for the job. let me play this 7.1 surround sound movie with a pair of air pods, instead of some huge home surround system.
ОтветитьI've always blamed 5.1 audio in 2.0 devices...
ОтветитьMayne you should teach actors to speak more clear instead of mumbling?
Ответитьfor those who struggle with ADHD or ADD, subtitles make a world of a difference as well. Something to do with the brain in that seeing the words + hearing them help ADHD tenfolds.
ОтветитьI thought it was just me and that I was going deaf!
ОтветитьThat's not true. Even if I watch Nolan's movie in a high-end theatre, I miss the dialogues and hear mumbling. Not even movies, the audio in the music is also went down a lot. The diction of many artists of today is below subpar. Many times I failed to get what Ariana Grande sings.
Ответитьoooooffffff course. first solution: buy better speakers. thanks capitalism.
ОтветитьThis "sense of scale" she talks about should really be rethought. I know the explosion needs to sound louder than a talk. But why does the MUSIC HAVE TO SOUND SO FREAKING LOUD THAT YOU NEED TO TURN IT DOWN and then when a dialogue comes up next, you need to turn it up again because it's so freaking quiet?
ОтветитьAlmost everyone I know has a huge tv and tiny little speakers like a sound bar or even just tv speakers. And they watch movies with distractions where it used to be a focused occasion.
ОтветитьThis one's for you, Matthew "Mumbles" McConaughey!
Also... for people with dyslexia, subtitles just ruin movies because you spend all your time looking at the words trying to keep up and missing what's going on in everywhere else.
Most TV shows need sub title's..... half the time they can't even speak properly
ОтветитьThe background music and effects are also louder than the dialogue.
ОтветитьI feel like the problem lies more in the mixing than it does the speaker system, because it seems like it is just as hard to understand dialogue at the theaters, and you can't turn the subtitles on there.
ОтветитьI feel like this has been one big nothing burger
Here are the factors why it used to sound better
Better focus on picking up voices
PRO-NUN-CIA-TION
Relatively higher production value on speech sound design
Time
Another good thing about subtitles, it also tells you stuff that you might have missed that isnt even in the dialog. I was watching a star trek episode with subtitles on. A transmission came across their radio: "You are heading into a massive Class X solar storm. You are advised to divert course" or something like that. None of the actors acknowledged it, except that the captain told the helm to divert course. So anyone watching wouldn't necessarily have heard the soft radio transmission, and wouldnt necessarily understand why the captain suddenly changed course. However, the subtitles told me everything. Seconds later, some energy wave hit the ship. I wouldnt have even known what was going on if I hadnt had the subtitles on.
Ответитьpov: you watched this with subtitles on
ОтветитьThis wouldn't be as much as a problem if actors were taught to accentuate their words better. I hate how the conclusion of the video is just "deal with it, just watch with subtitles" umm thanks.
ОтветитьWatched Oppenhimer a few months ago, waste of time. I hated it the theater did not have text.
First movie I had seen ten years and last one for a long time till they fix it.
got this problem lately when I wanted to play an old 2006 movie on a big TV and the 6ch AC3 mix was so poorly done, that the sound was simply inaudible - had to downmix the original 6ch tracks to stereo, then normalize it and use a dynamic compressor in Reaper, then compose the whole MKV container together again (without video re-encoding)
ОтветитьHey. I hate it here
ОтветитьSo they decided to make lower quality downmixes? The whole world is turning into plastic and I don't like it.
ОтветитьI got used to them from watching anime. They are useful for distracting situations. In the past if you didn't hear something you just didn't worry about it. Lots of stuff replayed on tv and most things you only needed the gist of. Critical plot info wasn't hidden in a line wispered only once
ОтветитьThis is why a centre speaker is so important for anything dialogue heavy. The next best thing would be to give people a volume slider for each element and allow them to set it like they do in video games.
ОтветитьPlus if you add tinnitus into the mix it's even worse! 👂🦻
