How about your ears? Do you get a lot of wax? I wish I did get a little. I hardly ever have any wax. I have big ear holes. They look like gd craters. I would bet you could see the eardrum from the outside of the ear. I can get my little finger half way down. Not that I do that. Was just curious once. I have a little camera that I can look in my ears. I have a fear of bugs getting in my ears. Happened once with a spider. Now I am kind of freaked out about it if I get a little tickle in my ears. I hear everything and even things I should not. I am 64 and wish I would go a little deaf. All that noise all the time. I wear my earbuds even when I don't need them just so I do not hear as much. Is that odd? I can still hear over the earbuds and that drives me crazy sometimes. I put in ear plugs when sounds become too much. They do sound muffled sometimes like something is wrong with the drum itself. Like if I laugh too hard or talk to loud it's an angry muffled noise in my ears. I do not hear voices or anything like that. It's kind of like when a person get water in the ear. I have no water in them. Odd stuff.

If cotton swabs was created then why do we use it

Ive been using q tips for more than 20 yrs now and just as I thought that I would have this kind of ear wax build up. To my surprise, my doctor told me that my ears are perfectly clean. I guess it about the size of the tip and technique of using it.

your comment about connective tissue made me curious. is there a link between ehlers danlos and deafness or eardrum damage? I have both but I've never thought of them together before!

I am guilty of using cotton buds to clean my ear because I don't feel comfortable when it seems to be wet with earwax. But what is the most appropriate material or instrument to clean the earwax? Thanks for the info...

As a twin hearing-aid user, I have to have this procedure around twice a year, as my earwax can't dry up & fall out naturally, as it does in those without hearing-aids.
Even after 15 years, I still get embarrassed by the 'agriculture' that's sucked out of my ears!!
I'm sure the person doing it has seen worse, but that's no consolation! 🤣

Hi Dr. I have few questions to ask wrt the video. May I know what would happen if cotton bud is trapped too long in the ear? And can it be removed without having to go to the clinic/hospital? By what means if it's possible?

I used to HATE having my cotton wool buds being put in my ears as a kid and endured many "beltings" from my mum over it but she gave up even now I still don't put one near my ears

I’ve used q tips since I was a kid. I have never had this issue and have clean ears all the time according to me Doc. The trick is to wet the q tip first, then clean. Not saying it doesn’t happen, because obviously it does

What is a good way to clean your ears out? I use soap on my pinky fingers when I take a shower. Is that ok to do? I mean is it safe?

Have been using cotton swabs for 10+ years. Never had any buildup of wax/ complications. It still baffles me on how people leave their ears unattended.

I know it’s important to leave some wax because it’s protecting the ear canal... but also I always really wanna see you scoop out all the tiny little wax pieces 🤣

I'm 56 and starting to lose hearing. A lifetime of jet engines and rock concerts.
Is it worth coming to see you to get my ears cleaned up?
Or is it just old age.

I use hydrogen peroxide & q-tips. My doctor says my ears are clean. No wax on my ear drums.

My ears always get so itchy when I don’t use cotton swabs for a few days I don’t want this to happen to me but what else do I do if I can’t use them??? 😩

When you perform these procedures i’m guessing the goal is to remove the issue not completely clean the ear (asking because you mentioned the smears at the end and i’m curious if you clean all the ear wax out for them or not)?
