The admin fee is disgraceful. I bet nobody even has to press a button to process it. I bet it's this automatic thing that takes no effort on their part. It's legalized stealing. I made the exact same mistake. The app is terrible.

“It’s not my mistake” Well, it is for not checking before buying. Obviously its going to show all earlier trains if you use the arrive by format.

I think next time you should click 'depart after' rather than 'arrive by' for outbound. That is why you accidentally bought the wrong ticket
