Great, informative video many thanks. My compliments for your English VERY good danke schön!!
ОтветитьNot having the Steering adjustable forward and back means you have to find the correct distance from the wheel by moving the seat. The biggest problem is drivers having the arms bent too much as they sit too close and this makes it harder for the driver to react and get possible injury from airbags being too close.
ОтветитьDeal breaker is no Battery thermal management… that’s a big no no!
ОтветитьOne small error in the video, the chademo port on the 62kwh version charges at 100kw not 50kw, which will make fast charging considerably faster (if you can find a 100kw charger)
ОтветитьI hope i can buy this car in 2025
ОтветитьI don’t think he mentioned the steering wheel rake? Surely that’s the worst thing in the world, and he didn’t mention it at all….. 🙄
Ответитьthe rims should have been black to match the roof and mirrors......
ОтветитьThe 2021 model do have a telescopic steering wheel, USB C charging port and they've moved the rear seat heating buttons.
ОтветитьIt is only model 2020, on 2021 the stearing wheel will also go in and out.
Ответитьkollege dein englisch ist ziemlich hölzern
dein vokabular ist echt limitiert bz ziemlich verdeutscht
It's funny for someone my age (over 60) to hear someone complain that the steering wheel ONLY goes up and down but not in and out.
I remember the days when the steering wheel was fixed, the only movements it had was to turn the vehicle right or left. lol…
Still a nice review. :)
The German arrogance is very apparent in this review - he fails to understand the aerodynamics of the leaf as he doesn’t know why it has a boxy shape in the back.
Further he doesn’t even know that the e+ can charge at 100kWh and not the 50kWh the “reviewer” implies.
More “Autogefuehl” would help...
As always an excellent honest, and, a thorough review from Thomas so don’t be blue. What has happened to Datsun...Sorry there, giving my age away, as much as I would love to be able to afford an electric vehicle, this car would definitely not be on my wish list! Do you like my photo taken back in 1969, on my beautiful Honda CB250?
ОтветитьNice video, as always!
please make a renault zoe review :) it looks like a very promising little car :)
I think the lower power, smaller capacity Leafs (Leaves?) make more sense. The model tested isn't cheap compared to the more modern competition.
ОтветитьYou missed to talk about charging. There is not plenty of Chademo fast chargers in Europe. And it's very rare that they can supply more than 50 kW.
This is much bigger disadvantage than the steering wheel in my opinion.
Nissan was among the first volume car manufacturers to mass market an affordable 100% electric vehicle- the Nissan Leaf.Renault followed also in this field with Renault Twizy e.v., Renault Zoe ev, Renault Fluence e.v. ,Renault Kangoo ev. Tesla is also a pioneer on premium electric vehicles.
I remember that Carlos Ghosn the former chairman of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance who now has some legal problems stated that "Toyota is leader on hybrid technology ,we (Renault-Nissan) wanna take the leadership on affordable electric vehicles and we don't want anybody to take it from us ! "
Also the VW group after the emission scandal in the usa announced it will bring ev to different markets .
So the trend towards pure electric vehicles is obvious . And that's a good thing! I hope the charging stations, globally, will develop faster in the future .
Thomas I like the way you are reviewing different cars from different brands ! Keep the good work in the future .
Why would anyone pick this over the ID.3? It loses out in pretty much every single category.
ОтветитьA massive miss to not have much steering wheel adjustment - it's 2020, how could they not put both rake and reach?
Ответить‚Leaf is technically excellent but design is very obsolete compared to ID3
ОтветитьThe least desirable electric car
ОтветитьA Review of the Honde E would be fantastic👍
ОтветитьGreat review as usual. How is it that Tesla can make beautiful electric cars but GM, Nissan, and Toyota cannot? Electric cars don't have to look goofy.
ОтветитьRedesigning the steering system is VERY expensive. New steering mechanism requires all new crash testing for all markets (EU, Japan, USA, etc.) where car is sold.
ОтветитьFor a DD those wheels are too big, you gotta have chunkier sidewall to make it more cushy. Overall I've driven the 2019 Leaf for a couple of days and it's a great little car for city driving.
ОтветитьWe're calling 37.000+ EUR car (that's how much e+ trim costs) reasonable, when it's almost the price of highest trim of X-Trail. And Leaf doesn't even try hard enough to be perceived as a good quality car.
ОтветитьThe problem with this “new” LEAF is the 50kw Chademo, that’s old tech too slow and this will be the last new car with that connection in EU, won’t be great for residual value and is too slow for long journeys (I had a gen 2 LEAF for 3yrs).
ОтветитьThis car has bad BMS, with no battery cooling. Because of this the car fast charge very slow. Not suitable for long trips with need for several fast charges.
ОтветитьThomas blue, its great!
ОтветитьNissan is the value ev buyers choice. Great utility with a huge boot. Nothing spectacular performance wise, but good enough in almost every category.
With Xpeng and Lexus both entering the market with Chademo, it may be in the upswing.
please, use different camera mount on the driver side window for sony action camera. it is soo shaky and wobbling so much.
ОтветитьHave seen reports that Nissan has finally introduced telescopic steering column but it may be market specific. Big drawback with tall drivers without. Used to have an older Leaf which the interior still looks so familiar apart from the dash area.
Love you calling out the animal skin in every video.
I’m hoping you can review the 2021 Tesla model 3 to see how much it’s improved from you’re previous review of the older model.
ОтветитьNice review. Very strange to see a transmission tunnel in an electric vehicle. I guess it’s based off an ICE platform.
Thanks for the review.
Infotainment not 7". It's 8"
ОтветитьFrom everything that i have hear about the Leaf is that its actually pretty quiet compared to other cars, comparable to a new Golf.
ОтветитьThomas has the best reviews, I wonder in this one was he hungover for filming?
ОтветитьDoes it have active battery temperature management? If no then nobody should buy this.
ОтветитьSure a good car, but incredibly unexciting too.
Ответитьlook forward to Nissan Ariya 2021 👌🤗
ОтветитьI could not find driving position, because of non adjustable steering wheel. Its a shame for nissan, we are not in 1990..
ОтветитьThis is an honest e-car!!
ОтветитьI would have thought that the battery tech being way behind the competition is the biggest weakness. And, the silly price (in the UK thst is).
ОтветитьMy only concern would be the cooling for the battery pack, is it still passively cooled?
ОтветитьYou BIGGEST concern is the lack of full adjustment possibility of the steering wheel?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Was this whole video a paid advertisement of NISSAN? I love the LEAF, it so comfortable to drive BUT this car needs to be improved seriously. Competition (e.g. KIA e-Niro) provide a much more better value for the same price tag.
Pros:
- Well-sized car with a very well-sized boot, supercomfortable for 5 people (e.g.: 2 adult and 3 1-16 years old kids)
- Interior is VERY practical despite its older look
- Infotainment is also very practical (its one of the best infotainment systems I have ever used - logical setup), there some things that can be improved but it still very usable
- Seats are extremely comfortable even during long ranges
- Very pleasant to drive, the noise isolation on highway is not perfect but better than other models in the same price range
- Manageable through an app (e.g. you can turn pre-heating/pre-cooling on , etc.)
Cons:
- LACK of any kind of battery cooling management system STILL (airflow is not a management system , just to be clear - management means its manages , tracks, monitors, takes actions if needed). This has been a problem since Nissan released the first LEAF and Nissan still has NOT addressed the most important issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is this a problem? If you are using the car in a city and charge it at home during the night (10A-20A on one phase) then it is not. BUT if you try to use your LEAF as a normal car (in 2021 is highly expected the electric cars can used in the city or travel long and longer distances) then you have a PROBLEM. DC charging heats up the battery, especially if you charge it from eg.: from 20% to 80% - IT NEEDS COOLING, otherwise your battery suffers degradation (this btw affect all EVS even with active colling but the rate is different)
Long story short: Nissan has been neglecting to fix the lack of battery cooling management system. I WOULD NOT BUY A CAR in 2021 that has no active cooling for the battery
- Related to the previous point: You can travel distance up to MAX. 400-500km before your battery fries from DC charge
- Type2 charging can ONLY support 7,2 Kw/h,/while in 2012, 11 or 22kw/h is something that other models have
- Still comes with ChaDemo and not CCS, which is limiting the DC charging capabilities (do not forget that because lack of the battery system cooling probably the ChaDemo (DC charging) would be anyway limited and not to used up to its full potential , CCS can reach easily today 100kw/h or more)- It should have CCS as this is the standard now in the EU.
- Anti-collision system is crap. It works perfectly in the Quashquai but it is unreliable in this car
- The app is too simplistic, I would expect it to provide all the information the car is gathering by default and much more. (status of the battery, % of time spent with about AC charging and/or DC charging....)
- Lack of sentry mode, I know that only Teslas have this BUT in a car with 360 degree view why cannot this be implemented or provided as option
- The price is high, the car is expensive. This construction is OLD, not effective. If you want to spent your money well, buy a KIA e-NIro which costs roughly the same price as this car and has a more efficient engine system + ACTIVE BATTERY COOLING MANGEMENT SYSTEM...and has a higher range with a similarly sized battery
I would only recommend EV to those that have the possibility of charging the car from a wall socket or have the possibility to install their wall charger at home. The charging has become generally payable (no more free charging) and prices have come close to the price of the fuel in comparison (still not reached parity) so the savings you obtain by buying an EV have reduced significantly. EVs needs a serious price reduction.
Last note: Big car companies have been fooling us for decades and intentionally killed all attempts to switch from a combustion car to an EV. If you seriously consider to buy an EV, please support a real alternative not related in any way to the bug car companies, and that is TESLA for me currently (I do not have the confidence in Chinese manufacturers currently , maybe this will change if they prove that their products have the quality I expect).
I like the design because Nissan does not try to reinvent (make it ugly) the design because of electric propulsion.
Thomas, why is leather not sustainable, are you a vegan? Is synthetic fabric better XD
Dashboard seem nicely done (still leaving analog gauge).
The stick for transmission is nonsense. But I cannot criticise because I no not like driving automatics.
Physical buttons are a plus in these days :D
I believe electric cars are not jet enjoyable as IC cars (maybe they will never be :( ). Yes they accelerate fast, but you need to look at the whole package. The car is heavy so handling is worse and longer drives with poor suspension and short battery distance will be annoying. I can see electric cars for city driving but for anything else there is still much improvement to be made to catch up.
You must have an older car. The car has been upgraded to include reach adjustable steering.
ОтветитьPrice £36,795 minus a £3,500 subsidy taken from poor people.
For that price there are cars which would look alot better on your driveway.
Great review as always! Really weird about the steering wheel not being depth-adjustable...
