I had only one cassette, got around twenty years ago, not with me now. In well known music apps like Jio Saavn, Amazon Music or Wynk there is Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan’s renderings included under Ustad Mushtaq Hussain Khan. I was frustrated not being able to listen to this mellifluous voice which is close to one Shamshuddin Patvekar who was our neighbour (actually father of one excise officer in a distillery). He was 80 when I heard him in 1982. Neither at my home, his home or the region in which we were forced by our destinies to live then had any liking for classical music. Two days ago on Facebook we observed death anniversary of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. I heard his Gunkari on radio on that day. I wrote on FB that I remembered U M H K’s some rendering ( on my cassette) in which the Bandish says Ram is walking and Seeta follows him. Today, after all music apps when I found him here I must bow with both hands folded to Mr Subrat Ji who has given us this gem. Fortunately I know Vidushi Sahana Banerjee of this Gharana who is a Sitar maestro and will some day ask her more about him.
