Man, Col Parker is like the most stereotypical villain producer imaginable, he wants the cheapest and most markable shit and plenty of times because of his own Greed he lose out on making even more MONEY

Elvis wasn’t very bright was he. He had the power to run Col. Parker instead of the other way around.

There’s a big difference between Frank’s movies. They were good movies, good scripts. Not the case with Elvis.

Many people from the South pronounce it like that. It's a regionalism that you rarely hear in film.

And to be fair, he was always extremely adamant to the press that Fats Domino was the king of rock and roll.

What the Austin Butler movie didn't acknowledge nearly enough of was Elvis' time at Sun and the fact the rockabilly sound started when he goofed around with Bill Black and Scotty Moore. That in turn heavily inspired future musicians like Buddy Holly, Tommy James and Roy Orbison.

That said, it'd be nice if the tile layer from Lubbock could get a better biopic treatment like the truck driver from Memphis did.

I found this an amazing example of what might happen to a person, if their parents pull them relentlessly in different directions, always wanting to meet expectations, and not being able to be identified by community or family. Maybe people project whatever they want to see on someone in hopes of a better future. I love the idea that he was in on the joke of just making mediocre movies for the sake of moving the industry along, good work if you can get it. And not really caring about his reputation because he wasnt truly trained as a professional actor.

In the modern world of the 'meme' economy, or of ideas just being apart of the human experience that spread, it seemed like Elvis brought people back down to earth instead of ridiculously facilitating an idealization in a commubity that could have gotten out of control. I thought that must have been ridiculously important at the time of the 'sexual revolution' because people were supposedly so repressed they couldnt accept their own natural desires. So there was a relentless desire to glorify someone like Elvis too much, as a projection of an actual sexual desire innate in women all over that worshiped him as a star.

Anyway, an amazing synopsis, sorry for the incoherent tangent of thoughts but i appreciate your analysis!

Ewan LMAO. Of course Elvis is the King of Rock & Roll. He is because he overwhelmed, dominated, broke records covered other singers songs and outsold them sounds like a King. As Paul Anka said myself, Chuck, Sam, Bobby, Fats etc we were trying to get our star rising by touring (black & whites). Elvis? He was in another stratosphere said Anka. Sounds like a King to me. It doesn't work to use that race card because it was also White performers who could not reach the stratosphere. Elvis had White Adults against him and the Black Neighborhood turned into a pack of hyenas toward him with lies, all this against Elvis and he still soared.
King like LeBron or Jordan. They dominated they set records, winning Rings like Elvis had several #1 hits while Chuck Berry had only one #1 hit.
This is too easy.

Truth? If you look at great actors as far back as the 1930s and forward they pick there scripts by who is the director.
Elvis was GENEROUSLY handed lightweight pedestrian directors. Seems like Elvis was on his own.
But the magic and proof that Elvis was real surfaced in King Creole the director was Legendary Michael Curtiz one of the greatest directors who even near the end of his life made the best Elvis film and made the statement Elvis has all the tools that is needed to be a movie star.

Very well done! I saw most of the Elvis movies when they were first released, often as part of a double bill at the drive-in theater. Watching nowadays, I enjoy seeing so many familiar faces. You only mentioned a few of his costars, likely because you weren't around in the 60's you didn't recognize a lot of them. Many were well known at the time for their respective TV shows. Here are a few of those shows, among the most successful of the decade:
I Dream Of Jeannie
The Donna Reed Show
The Addams Family
The Beverly Hillbillies
My Three Sons
A Family Affair
My Favorite Martian
The Brady Bunch
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Green Acres
Gunsmoke
The Twilight Zone
Here's Lucy
Batman
Petticoat Junction
Dragnet
The Munsters
Bewitched
The Patty Duke Show
Combat
F Troop
And some were known for acclaimed films like :
The Bride of Frankenstein
Of Mice and Men
The Manchurian Candidate
A Face in the Crowd
The Blackboard Jungle
2001 A Space Odyssey
A Hard Day's Night
Some trivia:
Girl Happy is notable for having early performances by Katey Sagal and Teri Garr in minor roles.
A Change of Habit had Mary Tyler Moore and Ed Asner who would later star together in The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Annissa Jones, Buffy on A Family Affair, and Susan Olson, Cindy on The Brady Bunch , both appear in The Trouble With Girls.
Judy Tyler died before Jailhouse Rock was released.
Delores Hart became a nun after starring with Elvis in Loving You.
Shelly Fabares was in three Elvis movies, Girl Happy, Spinout, and Clambake, the most of any leading lady.
Norman Rossington appeared in Double Trouble, as well as A Hard Day's Night, and Performance. Making him the only actor to appear in an Elvis movie, a Beatles movie, and a Mick Jagger movie.
Deborah Whalley appears in Spinout, her son ,Frank would later play guitarist Robby Krieger in the film, The Doors.
Red West, of the Memphis Mafia appears in many Elvis movies. He would later appear in a more substantial role in the Patrick Swayze film, Roadhouse.

I find it ironic how Elvis, who exploited african americans and their culture, was also taken advantage of by his manager and all of the people in his life, unfortunately. It definitely explains many of the decisions he made during his career (especially later in life), but regardless, it certainly doesn't justify those choices. I suppose thats just the entertainment industry, people who exploit people who exploit people, and thats always how its been.
