The pack.mcmeta isn't in the .jar file!
Yes, it's gone in versions other than 1.16. Here's how to make it yourself:
- Right click and create a new text file.
- Open it and copy/paste this:

- Save it.
- If your text file doesn't end in ".txt", enable file extensions by clicking on View, and checking "File name extensions".
- Rename the text file to pack.mcmeta

My jar file only says "1.18.1" and not 1.18.1.jar!
Then you need to enable file name extensions! In windows explorer it's under "View" -> "File name extensions".

What's the pack format for <version>?
1.8 - 2
1.16.5 - 6
1.17 - 7
1.18 - 8

will it make any difference if i put it in a zip folder after Im done with it?

hi legitimoose. i made an animated 3d model for an item and was wondering if theres a mod that lets me use it in a resource pack? bc java normally allows only .json files for items which dont allow animations and 2-axis rotation. thank you

the release of 1.20 breaks (at least for me) texture packs before it, so u cant use ur 1.19 tp/rp in 1.20.
if this changes ill edit the comment.
edit: delete the contents of the fonts folder in assets

dude Dude DUUUDE, you're a life saver! I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it was only letting me use colors on the elytra, despite me using the inkdrop tool to select colors from my skin. i did 1.12.2 textures to 1.19.4 or i tryed it dosent work it does have the no texture texture

The item file isent in textures and is in models and when I go to open it with gimp it says failed file type

for some reason in the versions it isnt displayed as a .jar and it wont let me change the file type
