Huge shout out to the Professor for helping our Yu-Gi-Oh brains learn at least something about Magic the Gathering today!
I think we have no choice but to try to play Commander now... 🤔

id say one of the top cards that is still banned to this day in yugioh is Change of heart, legit any creature you just gain control of unless you have immunity for it

I don't think there is a power 9 in yugioh there's just too many cards that are on the ban list and too many cards that are limited. Imagine 3 copies of monster reborn or soul charge or heavy storm. And 50 more plus cards that are on that list konami will never bring back and don't forget pre errata cards that were broken before being errata'd.
It would be easier to find the power 9 as decks within there time format. Reply to this with your 9 archetypes/deck types. Cuz I want to come back to this comment at a later time.

It's funny they mentioned how Vamp Spawn is bad. I instantly went "How can I cycle this to just destroy everyone with no chance to recover?" Bad and Meh cards in Commander become insane left field knockouts. Is it meta? No, but it's funny!

yugioh does have multiple formats, they just aren't officially supported by konami. GOAT format (2005 era) has a pretty strong cult following

Umm there is in fact a card that has 3 words in its text box does the effect “draw 2 cards” ring a bell

I feel that this rating system was bad since a lot of these cards could be good or bad depending on the format. True name nemesis is bad in commander but good in legacy, and smothering tithe is good in commander but bad in legacy. So technically nobody got the answer wrong on some of these since the professor never specified.

Does anybody remember what they used to call "traditional" format, where they had no forbidden list and everything was just at 1 limited instead of forbidden?

I would put Yugioh's Power 9 as the following:

1) Pot of Greed
2) Graceful Charity
3) Card of Safe Return
4) Mirage of Nightmare
5) Delinquent Duo
6) The Forceful Sentry
7) Cold Wave
8) Royal Oppression
9) Magical Scientist

I've chosen these as they're not only super broken but fairly generic and very old, as the Power 9 of MtG are as well. So nothing like Maxx "C" or V.F.D are here. I've also decided for simplicity's sake not to include cards that have been changed through errata like Makyura or Future Fusion which likely would've made the list otherwise.

Think this needs to be pointed out but not ALL creature's effects are affected by summoning sickness. Peregrin Took's sacrifice ability can be used while Peregrin has summoning sickness because it is not a TAP effect. It can also be used as many times per round as you have food tokens, unlike tap effects. Sorry prof... I feel bad now.

I would just like to say, bhaal was my first commander, and is still my favorite. He is absolutely insane, especially in multiplayer matches, because as long as you have a sac outlet available, your opponents big creatures cant do anything tobyou, and they have to attack opponents. Add indestructible into the mix, and you get a really defensive and offensive commander. Hes extremely fluid for whatever you need to do in game, and i highly recommend it. Definitely one of the best jund commanders.

pot of greed, delinquent duo, graceful charity, painful choice, rigeki, dark hole, change of heart, snatch steal, heavy storm. i think these would be 9 yugioh cards that could be contenders of the power 9 XD

This video kinda old now and I’ve been out of yugioh for too long to remember what a power9 would look like in yugioh, but I’m pretty sure it was just a lot of the original ban list, or even now cards that have survived on the ban list for multiple decades. Cyberstein/Magical Scientist, Butterfly Dagger Elma, Delinquent Duo/Confiscation/Forceful Sentry, Mirage of Nightmare, Painful Choice, Imperial Order.

Has Commander really gotten so big that we talk about it like it's a common, regular way to play the game instead of some spinoff? That's...very different for me, but I've been out of playing in-person for a long time. I admit my biases are towards 1v1.

I find when it comes to yugioh players and magic the yugi boomers play green ❤ nothing but respect for them and as for your average sweaty yugioh player they usually play blue white 😂 but always blue 😂 no respect for you bunch and you all know why 🤣

A person who runs vampire tribal deck im offended at Vampire spawn being shat on with exquisite blood and epicure of blood, it is one of many vampires that can trigger an infinite life gain and ping down your opponents at the same time.(I'm not really offended, I'm just surprised it wasn't brought up though)
