Xbox Activision Blizzard Deal BLOCKED by The CMA!...WHY?

And now this thing is gonna drag on even more also cloud gaming? Really? Of all things?

I think Microsofts endgame is to eventually drop the console altogether in favor of just having Xbox be the Gamepass service.
If that is the case, I can see where the CMA is coming from if Microsoft dips into Cloud based Gamepass stuff with ABK. But that's far off down the line.

I don’t really care about cloud gaming to tell you the truth but man oh man it must suck to be a Xbox fan right now which is just sad, because I want Xbox brand to succeed not fail and fall apart like what happened to the Dreamcast a long time ago.

If Microsoft leaves the console business and Nintendo doesn't make anything that can rival the ps5 in power then we're screwed.
Then we go right back to ps3 sony selling expensive consoles again only worse.
Sony is increasing the price on everything outside the us and if there is no competition we can be looking at 1000 dollar consoles and 100 games.

Personally I do believe exclusive games matter. Let’s face it, the Xbox One had little to no good exclusives during its run and the Xbox Series X/S has not been doing any better. Unless the deal does not go through and the upcoming Redfall and Starfield do not exceed expectations, I don’t see Xbox doing any better.

I'm sick of Microsoft just buying big publishers instead of buying developers or creating anticipated exclusives. Sony is buying these small video game studios and their creating new video games like firewallk studios and their Working On A AAA Multiplayer Game For PlayStation and a couple other ones.
Phil Spencer is EXTREMELY overrated as a business man. I'm not a Jim Ryan fan either, but at least Sony is putting out great games.

Microsoft has 23 studios. They should use some of that money and try making some games. They have so much more capital, there’s really nothing stopping the, from competing with what they have now.

They have more studios, and more money, how much more of a handicap/advantage do they need to compete? It’s not that they can’t compete. They have been, they’ve just been losing. MS’s issue isn’t lack of studios and IP.

I like PlayStation and I own console. Jim Ryan needs to shut up with Call of Duty shit. Did he forgot about Crash and Spyro? There are many franchises that PS owns and they need to explore reviving games like KillZone, Resistance and even from defunct JapanStudio.

I bet they thought great competition would come from Ticketmaster and live nation merger. Look how that turned out to be a nightmare for music lovers. Microsoft has a history of stifling competition especially with their OS. Much like the Ticketmaster live nation deal, once the deal is done Microsoft could change their mind and make all games exclusive. Maybe it would be better for them to invest that money in the studios they already own and maybe release a game, it's taken ages for redfall and ages till the next one. Instead of trying to buy up the market work with the studios they already have.

This is not sad for gaming.... Xbox has not been competitive seen 360, so if they disappear tomorrow no one will bat a eye. A 2 Trillion dollar company does not need sympathy. They got money to money-hat every game instead of buying publishers but refuse because they know there fan base refuse to play games.

Exclusive games that home grown versus those from third parties. The CMA did the right no gamepass price increases for a bit! I really hope that Xbox dosen't go software-only. I may have switched to PC but I'll never forget all the memories and good times I had with this brand and even if I am not affiliated with it right now, It still breaks my heart.

Exclusives make the market for each company , Sony has always been strong in that department , Microsoft has had 2 gens to get it together , the 360 was awesome. Buying and monopolizing everything isn’t the answer

everyone should be happy that this deal got blocked. we all have seen how terrible Microsoft is at running studios and game development. taking 6-7 years to release a game like Crackdown 3. even their big franchises like Halo are in trouble. even recent news has been bad for them, the 30 FPS with Redfall. if they cant even handle the studios they have right now, it isnt a good idea to give them even more.

Maybe you don't understand how business works, cloud gaming is a different beast that's coming in the future different than the console side of gaming. The CMA just want to make sure that Microsoft don't have a monopoly on the cloud gaming side of gaming.

Why do you care about the activision acquisition on the console side of gaming? Nothing will change for xbox if they acquire or don't acquire activision. You can play activision games right now and soo does sony. Why can't it stay the way it is now with activision? Oh I know because " Microsoft want a monopoly on Cloud gaming"" that is thier focus. Xbox fans needs to wake up because Microsoft is going to drop the xbox console and focus of cloud gaming.

If the appeal happens, its going to look very bad for the CMA. It’s clear they don’t understand how the cloud market works and that alone is going to cost them the appeal. If the CMA needed more time, they should have extended the deadline or approve the deal with concessions. To block and not fully understand is going to make this a rocky road for both parties.

Strong arming the market with your endless money isn’t
competing. Right now with Zenimax MS has double the studios of Sony. Compete by making some great games with them.

Personally, I think this is great news for gaming. MS is wanting to "compete" by buying up third parties, and trying to shape the gaming market to what they want it to be. While I'll agree that Sony could do with a push to try harder specifically with FPS, they've done wonders with their first party output in other genres, so them "coasting" on CoD sales isn't the worst thing IMHO. Meanwhile, it seems MS too will have to compete the traditional way, so boohoo to them.

Creating your own exclusives with studios you ALREADY OWN is different from buying up as much IP as possible to take away games and prevent fair competition is very, very different.

MS ALREDY HAVE like 40 studios with dozens and dozens of exclusive IP. How about they actually make exclusive GAMES from those studios instead?
