Wrong.

I'm not having a beliefsystem beelieving that gods not existing.

I followed the evidence and the evidence was lacking for god or gods.

That's not saying that they're not existing.

The evidence so far showing that they're guilty of not existing.

Unless they're proving otherwise.

We were all born atheists, Until we were indoctrinated as small children
to believe in the existence of a personal God, And the literal truth of the
Bible, ( Or other scriptures ). However, I was never able to fully internalise
That belief, I mean, As a child, I accepted that it must be true because it's
What my parents and grandparents believed, And it's what was taught at
Church, but there's a difference between accepting something must be
true, And actually believing it to be true.

My study of philosophy really opened my eyes in many ways, it taught me
about logical thinking in general and about the different worldviews held
by different cultures throughout history, And it made it harder and harder
for me to accept that there must be a God, simply because of what I was
Taught by my parents and teachers.

I'm an atheist because of a god does not give a good answer to the following question:
Q: Why is there something, rather than nothing?
A: God did it
Q: God is something. Why is there something, rather than nothing?
I don't know the answer to that question, but I don't think that "god" is a helpful answer.

OK, this video pretty much immediately presents atheism as a choice. Belief is non-volitional. A person can’t choose believe something that they haven’t been convinced of. The closest they’re going to get is to choose to pretend to believe something for which they haven’t been convinced.

I’m less than a minute in. We will see how this goes, but I highly doubt that I’m going to make it through this whole video.

I don't call myself an atheist because that only gives credibility to the idea of a god or gods. It gives the impression that there is some sort of sensibly concept I have chosen not to believe in. I am yet to come across a definition of any god that is at all coherent. So, for me, there is nothing to not believe in.

Also, lacking a belief in a god is not a worldview anymore than lacking a belief in the tooth fairy is a worldview.

Science had nothing to do with my atheistism, It was history.
After finding out about Christian Young Earth Creationists and seeing the actual bible timeline of under 7000 years, I couldn't believe anymore.
The Noah flood on the timeline is 4300 years ago during a time we know several civilizations recorded their history.
Atheistism is not a worldview. I became an atheist before i knew what an atheist was. The only view i had was knowing what i believed was a lie my entire life.

No one becomes atheists, we are all born not theists aka atheists. Atheism is the default position of requiring nothing including recognition of the claim that Gods exist. The title would be better stated as why people return to not being theists and it boils down to a similar scenario as to why children return to not acknowledging Santa as real, there are many recognizable failures that cause one to question the existence of unbelievable beings. Being aware of just how much humans don't know or understand leaves agnosticism on the table, where one can recognize that even though we don't have an intellectual case for the existence of any Gods, the solution could be in what we don't yet know or understand. As it stands now, theists continue to place their Gods in our gaps of knowledge and understanding or make up highly irrational reasons for the need of a God.

I wondered why were the adults lying to me about the idea of a God as a kid. The issue being that the idea of good demands action and the total failure on offer was a dismissal of the idea. The issues with God claims are so much worse from the perspective of an adult with lots of details about the world and theological notions in general.

Only one nit...I would not denote atheism as a worldview, but rather a BYPRODUCT of a variety of different worldviews. Worldviews inform one's understanding of the world such that atheism is a product of an understanding as opposed to being a something that supports an understanding.

Huh... not trying to be confrontational or starting a debate or anything but... well, sorry to say but the title is simply wrong in principle : people don't "become" atheist, they simply stop being theist.

It's like, if people were a jar and religions were condiments, converting to a religion would be filling the jar with either mustard or ketchup and converting to another religion would be emptying the jar of mustard and then refill it with ketchup. But an atheist would simply be a jar that hasn't been filled or refilled with a condiment ; it's just an empty jar.

Never been a theist, therefore I never "became" an atheist.
I'm one of the lucky children of the first generation in western Europe where the parents didn't indoctrinate their children with religion before they turned 13.
Learning logic thinking before learning about religion means you're immune to religion because you see on first view religion makes no sense at all.
THAT is the reason for the increasing number of atheists, parents don't indoctrinate their children anymore, nothing else, the few people who manage to get out of religion despite indoctrination are a near meaningless minority in comparison.

What @55 said. Even as a kid when I was drug to church every week the stories just didn't ring true. Then in college I took some anthropology courses and found that all the cultures studied had religious beliefs and those beliefs were usually wildly different from each other, but shared the belief that god(s) could be placated to some extent. It all smelled of people believing what made them feel less alone and more influential. Just self serving.

Neurodivergent individuals who are open to experience are inclined to question anything they have not experienced as truth. Through curiosity, we educate ourselves about the nature of our cosmos. Philosophy, science, morals and experience, we awaken to our own, not society nor religious dogma to understanding of self, our place, purpose. Learn quantum metaphysics, zen Buddhism and find your truth out of suffering. Both science and spiritualy, not religion and it's limited beliefs.

There is no big difference between a religious person and an atheist.

A religious person in a modern society doesn't believe in thousands of gods, worshipped in different cultures.

An atheist doesn't belive in them too.

Thus, we may consider a religious person as an atheist to all known gods, except a chosen subset of them.

We may ask religious people why they chosed not ti belive in all those gods.

I didn't watch the entire video but I'm pretty sure you over-complicated it. It's really simple: people become atheists because they stop believing in god. It's exactly like when you stopped believing in Santa Claus, but with god. Most people lose their faith in Santa in childhood, as the brain develops, but unfortunately many hold on to their equally silly belief in god far into adulthood and even their entire lives. It truly boggles the mind.

God?

I remember having decided at age 12, that there is nothing real about religion and a god, and all directed at the simple minded .

Today I turn 75 years old. I was raised Roman Catholic / Christian and even went to a 4-year high-school seminary (1963-7) studying to be a Carmelite-Order priest. It was my experiences there that eventually turned me into an Atheist.
They taught that, "if a woman / girl dresses sexy and gets raped; it's her fault." I couldn't accept that the victim is guilty for the crime. I started speaking up; and started getting harassed. But that was not the main thing.
It was the period of Pope John Paul (the first). This meant "liberalization"; particularly converting the language used in the Mass from Latin to English; and having the seminary students lead the mid-Mass prayers. They took the form of: Student: "For the Pope in Rome; We pray to the Lord."; Congregation: "Lord hear our prayer!" ... For the local bishop; lord hear our prayer. For our parents ... and always ended, "For OUR fighting men in Vietnam ..."
One day it was my turn to lead those prayers; I ended with, "For ALL the people fighting and dying in Vietnam ..." AND ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!
I spent the next 2 full years being tormented for "heresy", "We don't pray for those godless commies!" My grades went from straight A's to near-failing; I was ostracized and allowed no friends. Going thru this far from home was nothing less than psychological torture. And I had no real basis upon which to defend myself - so the self-doubt (and fears of going to Hell to face the worst punishment possible, 24-hours a day, for all eternity) tormented me non-stop.
Upon graduation, I was no longer a Catholic. I looked into other religions and found ALL of them equally arrogant-sectarian. I then did an in-depth study of the Bible and its horrors scandalized the bleep out of me.
That's so interesting because we had studied it so hard for those four years that I almost had it memorized. Yet, re-reviewing it showed me I had missed endless highly-objectionable claims.
Since then, I've been the most-highly moral person I can be; including spending 20,000 hours (40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year: 1965-1975) fighting to end the US Gov slaughter of 2-3 million innocents in Vietnam / Indochina. And other peace-justice causes since then.

I was raised Catholic, however I had problems with religious doctrine at a fairly young age. I would often do thought experiments along the lines of: if I was god how would I do X and almost always came up with what I thought were better answers. As I learned more about science and delved into religion the more I became convinced religion is a human creation and the natural world was all that exists.

Unlike the trope of some apologist all the religious folks I met seemed sincere and my great uncle was a priest who founded the parish my family attended when I was growing up.
