Using Lightroom masks to balance highlights and shadows in street photography

As I've mentioned on your other "how you edit" videos....this stuff is EXTREMELY valuable, especially for those of us shooting digital monochrome.

I don't know if either of you have a non-mono Leica, but I've been very impressed with Cobalt Imaging's CCD Monochrom profile with my M240. Supposedly they do some luminance mapping wizardry before demosaicing. You don't get the detail advantage over a true monochrom, but the tonality I get over using the built-in profile or others is noticeable.

The new auto-masking capabilities in LR are shockingly amazing, especially for people and face detection.

It's always interesting watching how people edit with LR, particularly the different ways that you can use the software. Even through the compression of YT, the detail on that sensor is impressive. Great expressions on their faces, the cigarettes really make the shot for me.

Do you think that your presets are less effective for those of us not using Leica optics ?

I'm not a lightroom user but still found the video interesting. I use a similar approach in On1 Photo Raw.
