I have seen parents like that everyday and it hurts me to see the child go through with it, and I"m talking BOTH parents. While the father was mostly wrong for the physical abuse, the mother's mental and emotional abuse of hiding what was actually going on and calling them "accidents" is about as damaging as what the father's doing, if not more.

One day in therapy the kid will talk about his kindergarten teacher beating up his abusive father

Plot twist: The Principal beats up the kids! AARRHGH!!

Now that jerk knows what it's like if some one bigger than him is beating down him

Imagine of Arnold had gotten the wrong parent and that guy was actually a proud father of one of his other students, woulda been hilarious

I guarantee you he was imagining going back in time to his father while filming this scene
