I see this video as an astronaut who ended things with her significant other but regretted it the entire time she was in orbit. She fought hard, on the perilous trip home to, keep it together.

When she miraculously crash landed in one piece, she immediately called her significant other to apologize and say all the things she wishes she would have said. That's why she cries and laughs in relief at the end.

At least, that's how I see it.

Here's how I interpret this music video every time, and why it's so beautiful to me:

The astronaut left Earth and was isolated from everyone she loves. Given that she crash landed, I'm assuming she wanted to come back but couldn't and was stuck in orbit. I mostly interpret it as her being someone who got separated from someone she loved (most probably a significant other and probably because of society or circumstances), and she finally got the courage to let that go or she's been through so much in life but still gravitates (literally) back to this person. Being stuck in orbit is synonymous to being stuck in a box of expectations that society forces us inside, and spinning around in space and being detached from the world, because she isn't allowed to be her true self.

I also interpret it as her being someone who was dealing with debilitating mental health issues, and she isolated herself from her loved ones (hence the orbit and small spaceship), and she was detached (dissociating) her way through life and cut off everyone she loved because nothing felt real. Her mind trapped her in a small space and convinced her she didn't belong.

In both scenarios, she breaks free (either from society's expectations or her own) and finally comes back to Earth. She risked her life to come back (the crash landing) but it was worth it for the person/people she came back for. The first thing she did when she came back is call the person she was separated from.

As far as I can tell from the video, she says 'It's Sam, yes I'm okay. I'm okay' and manages to hitch a ride. The feeling of finally being free from whatever chains were trapping her, and the promise of finally being back with who she loves makes her break down and cry.

So beautiful, can't get enough of this.
