Flats and boxer are not the same thing as flats pistons are connected to the same crank shaft where boxer pistons are fighting against eachother (that’s where boxer comes in) on seperate opposite crankshafts but still flat like a flat engine

What is the benefit of each ? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each ! ?

You should point out that although all boxers are flat motors, not all flat motors are boxers. As for your layout for a W12, crankshaft wise. For example, the cylinder layout you drew is 2× VR6's sharing a common crankshaft ( a straight 6/ V12 pattern crank), not 2× V6's. That would require 4 conrods per big end journal!

If automobile manufactures really want to get power for their cars, i think its time to upgrade to jet engines.
No inline or V or W engines will ever come close!!!!
