I love that film, one of the best adaptations the only I would change is Esmeralda's hair colour. They should make it black or darker brown she is described as black haired girl plus Romanies are MOSTLY dark haired.

Why the ending is defferent from the real one
In the book the ending was Esmeralda died by hanging and quasimedo was suiciding and fabous was marrying a lady name as flaur de le.
Fabouse was a cheater and womeniser.he didn't love Esmeralda.

A great spectacle, but Hugo it isn't. I'd urge anyone who has enjoyed any of the many film versions to read the book.
