ОтветитьThis is the most informative channel on a topic I have only become interested in. I live in what is probably the most cultured city in the world and have great access to scenes that are desired by clothing designers and event promotion companies plus shoot hundreds of stage and film actors for their portfolios but such work is slowing down so the idea of stock is interesting to me. Back in the day when I had a large popular recording studio in California I always had my film camera close by in one of the control rooms so would snap monochrome shots of relaxing times for the artists or when in serious discussions with the producer during a brake and many of those ended up on album covers or liner notes. Labels paid based on sales, since it came out of the artists share, if it did not sell well the label was not out anything. So when an album sold 3-6 million copies, royalties were quite impressive, more than what I earned actually recording the album. My studio produced 197 gold and platinum albums in rock and R&B so those casual snapshots paid for several homes and provided the seed money for a dozen other related businesses. I moved from the US in 2000 after giving everything away back in California and have been living in a great place for photography, as a major tourist destination and cultural center, St Petersburg Russia and opened 3 small businesses, one being a photo studio with primary customer base are actors, opera singers and ballet dancers. A few years ago there was a protest march and I took photos of it and posted them on web site and the next day a few of the images were on all the major news networks broadcast or their web sites in Europe, US and Australia. I did not mind the free use of my photos but what pissed me off was how every one of them badly distorted the issue and flat out lied making the protest into a riot against the government when it was preservationist who wanted to prevent the big federal gas company from building the tallest building in Europe within view sight of the historic city center which is a UNESCO World Heritage site as the most preserved original large city center. The protest worked, the gas company has already spent $100,000,000 in site work, government owned, was told by popular demand to locate it somewhere else. They did and created a whole new very modern part of the city 10 miles away which has become its own community of higher end hotels, shopping and recreation destination, a win-win result.
I have not posted any to any stock sites or agencies, but it might be a good time to seriously consider it. I have access after hours to all the grand museums, palaces and estates for tourism promotion images but the concept images you displayed sparks interest in me.
One question, if models are used, does a release be needed if it is an unidentified part of a person such as a hand modeling a bracelet or ring ? Also, if a model is used, what sort of compensation do you use, say, share in royalties, or simply rights to use the images herself.
I am doing vectors now because I can't get my photos accepted. Always get declined or noise or not in focus which I am not able to tell with my naked eye (I alkways zoom in and check and only upload the best) Hoping I find good ideas for vectors.
ОтветитьThanks for this video, was very interesting!
Also, I took a look to the list of agencies you use, and I noticed that you don't use iStock. Is there a reason for that? I'm new in stock photo, and I uploaded some of my photos on iStock, and I'm wondering if it's a good choice.
Wow thanks for the tips great video

ОтветитьCool video! How do you handle situations where you have no model release, especially in other countries when doing street photography / shooting stuff when you travel? How do you ensure you are allowed to sell the image, especially when it's only 1 other person on it? That person might have consented to you taking the picture, but might not be happy if you sell it to others?
ОтветитьStellar advice and vid, could you recommend what format and pixel size to upload and is it better to create collections or just keep them individual?
ОтветитьThank you sir
It is really helpful and motivated video.....
How long does it take to sell one of your pictures 400 times though?
