Wow, I love this tutorial. I'm just learning to spin and every other video was a bore. You made a great tutorial, thank you!!!
ОтветитьWonderful video. I love the clear simple
Description
Of how to spin! Thank you!
What an excellent video for absolute beginners. I am considering getting my very first wheel in the next few months, and I feel like you provided just enough information to get me started. I like the low-risk approach, where you start with getting the hang of treadling, then moving up to spinning yarn, and so on. I did the same thing when my daughter lent me a spindle, and I practiced on a single Ply yarn I had in my stash. She was amazed how quickly I got that hang of spinning actual fiber after. Thank you Evie ❤
ОтветитьI don't spin. But I've always wanted to know about a spinning wheel. It was completely mysterious to me how it worked. You've answered all my questions. Thank you.
ОтветитьIn my recent move, 2 or 3 parts to my ladybug. Spinning wheel came undone and are now missing. Spinning was my way to relax in the evening.
I have looked up the parts and planned to order new ones. As soon as I can. It is so nice to be able to be productive and at the same time clear your mind of everything but what you are doing. This video is grest.
I have been struggling with my spinning wheel. I jumped right in trying to spin fiber. I thought how different can it be from a spindle. Between your video on how to put on a double drive band and this one. I will feel confident enough to join my guild at our retreat. Your videos help me to solve lots of my problems.
ОтветитьIt has not quite started my journey I am however doing research because I do not have money and I need to at least know some of this subject before I start
ОтветитьLove your videos! I just got my first drop spindle and am learning to spin on it before moving up to a wheel. Your videos have been so helpful! Watching this one is making me excited for spinning on an actual spinning wheel eventually 😄
ОтветитьDear Jillian, I have watched so many of your videos and like many other of your subscribers, just love you. I am struggling with my first spinning wheel, a Kromski Sonata, and not able to get the draw without breaking the yarn. Mostly I had no draw, just twist, when I do adjust the break I get some draw but the twist bunches up, clogs the orifice, then breaks the leader yarn and any wool I am lucky enough to begin. To add to that, my yarn is not wrapping around the bobbin which I have re attached the leader yarn more times than I can count. Jillian, which videos or podcasts do you recommend?
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьMy treadle keeps coming apart from the wheel. I've tied it together but it still keeps coming loose and falling apart you have any recommendations?
ОтветитьThank you for this video! I have a new to me CPW and I cant wait to try it.
ОтветитьWow. Thankyou so so much. I can do this !Sucn good clear instructions.
ОтветитьJust a word that I discovered as a self taught spinner many years ago. You need to be mindful of how long the individual fibers of the wool (or whatever you are spinning). Extremely long fibers may need your hands to be farther apart (long draft). Also sometimes if you buy indie hand dyed wools...sometimes they dont get the excess dye out well enough and it is so sticky it wont draft well. Give a few rinses (without agitation), let it dry and try again.
ОтветитьI’m a new spinner and have learned a lot from your videos. What do I do at the end of my singles? Do they just have untwisted ends?
Ответитьis it better to work in your stocking opposed to slippers or shoes?
ОтветитьDidn't help me spin, but did answer my questions of how wheels are supposed to work
ОтветитьSo excited to start!
ОтветитьJillian, can you help me identify my spinning wheel? The leather broke on my treadle after I moved cross country over 4000 miles. It is an Ashford but I'm not sure what type. Either a country spinner or a traditional.
ОтветитьVery good video, very encouraging, thank you!
ОтветитьAfter looking around for beginner spinning videos/tutorials, I finally hit gold when I found your videos, Evie! Thank you. I've loaded up 4 bobbins of yarn that I spun, thanks to you. To be clear, it's all CRAP yarn, but it's crap yarn that I spun! LOL I understand that this craft requires some patience... in the meantime, I'm practicing with your cheery voice on my shoulder, battling the Crap voice on my other shoulder.
ОтветитьThis was very helpful to explain a few things and I'll definitely go watch more of your videos. I recently found a spinning wheel and I'm excited to fix it up and try it
ОтветитьWhat a great video. Nice, clear instructions and all done with a great "can do," attitude. Thank you for sharing. I'm off to card some will to start practicing.
ОтветитьI am one of those people who hates when tutorials have all these preliminary steps ... yeah yeah yeah just tell me how to spin!! But I have to admit: these exercises before I start spinning are exactly what I needed in order to make the first spinning go smoothly. As a bonus, I was able to use my practice time to ply some yarn that I haven't been able to use for knitting because it was spun the wrong direction!
ОтветитьI’ve been spinning for a decade - nice video- well done. I love the new spinner comments. So much newly discovered magic.
ОтветитьThis is so useful! I have spun on a spinning wheel for over 30 years and it's so long ago that I've forgotten how I learned and therefore don't know how to teach it.
Ответитьwhy is fly wheel not going round so yarn wont spin
ОтветитьI am so excited! I assembled my Ashford Kiwi two days ago and I started practicing my treadeling tonight!
ОтветитьI finally set up my spinning wheel after 3 years!! I’ve watched your videos for a while now and find them the most helpful. I have a spinning class in a couple of days and so excited to learn. I love how this video is set up. Practice peddling. As soon as I set up my ladybug, I went to work it and found how difficult it was!! Omg. It was going back and forth and really started to freeze up with my feet!! This is so helpful of learning the basics of spinning. Thank you 😊
ОтветитьYou must be a teacher by profession. Your instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Thank you for the video and the time you took to make it. I am getting very excited about spinning.
ОтветитьHere goes
ОтветитьFound a lovely old wheel today while out at a yard sale today. Have wanted to learn how to use one for years! Thanks for the great intro, can't wait to use it!
Ответитьvery good explaination,i have borrowed an ashfors traditional but i think i would prefer a double footplate like a treadle cos it feels more natural to me,
ОтветитьI'm here in Scotland (in my 200+ year old weavers cottage) having just spun my first bobbin full of slightly uneven, slightly wonky yarn thanks to your video Evie-thank you! 💜
ОтветитьHow do you take yarn off the wheel?
ОтветитьMeravigliosa ❤
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьWatching your video has inspired me to spin. ❤❤ I got my first spinning wheel today and have been playing this video on repeat and practicing.
ОтветитьHi I love your videos thank you I have a viantage castle spinning wheel-I discovered where the tension is up on top-it needs to be on the tighter end to feed the yarn to the bobbin, but I can't get the wheel to stay turning at all-after 3 hours or more I gave up for today smiles is this just a practice thing or is something else I need to adjust thank you Kathy
ОтветитьI have been fascinated by flax and linen for years. I know that good flax is expensive and difficult to find in the US, so I'm going the route if growing my own.
Extreme? .... Maybe?
So double drive is most likely the route I will be taking. These videos are priceless for the information they provide, but that's not the best part. Your enthusiasm makes my interest stay intact. Thank you so much for the motivation. It may take some time, but your weaving videos will be on replay when I get that far.😅
First, I appreciate you so much. WE LOVE HISTORY TOO! I started out wanting to do something with my Great Pyrenees' fur, which I did on spindles and that sent me down the rabbit hole. I have watched many of your videos many many times....Not sure if this is the best place but I have some questions. I have access locally to Rambouillet. I purchased a fleece and I wonder if you could give some feedback on combing it. I have Valkyrie fine combs and a set of the small Louet combs but this fleece seems to really get stuck behind the comb.....more than any other I have tried. Do you have any advice for processing or combing that might help? I am also curious to see how you comb longer locks like Leicester? Thank you for sharing so much. I am spinning great yarn on both a newer castle wheel from someone local to a smaller old flax wheel all the way to an e-spinner by Ashford now. I really want to make processing the Rambouillet easier. Help! :)
ОтветитьHello! I have watched all of your tutorials and felt pretty prepared when I drove 6 hours to get a spinning wheel - an old style (single treadle) Schacht Matchless, billed as gently used (and it appears to be in good condition)! It's been a bit of a disaster to figure out the setup - I cannnnnot get the yarn to uptake, even when the break band is so tight my wheel nearly tips over. Concern two - anytime I slow down my treadle or stop the machine tries to restart Z instead of S. Do you have any ideas? I'm about to call this a very expensive mistake and save up my money for another machine 😭
ОтветитьJust got my wheel...SO OVER THE MOON OMGGGGGAHHHH!!! this is so amazing! Will be watching this over and over!! Thank you!!!
Ответитьwhat do I do if my flyer only goes back and forth not all in one dire
ОтветитьThis is exactly what I’ve been looking for, I’d almost talked myself into believing I’d made a big mistake buying this wheel. I’ve practiced some of the steps and it really works just like you said! Off to do more, thank you thank you.
ОтветитьI bought a spinning wheel today off of FB Marketplace to use as decor in my Craftroom. I think it's missing a few connecting pieces for me to actually spin with it BUT I just subscribed to you & will learn all about this timeless art!! TIA for what I am about to learn from you. 🧶
ОтветитьLoved this was working and getting an old wheel up and running and it was so helpful!!!
ОтветитьI've been spinning for years but enjoy watching other people to get different ideas. Enjoyed your video I plan to watch more
