Abdul hamid 2 didnt use the title caliph becuase he wanted to save his empire. At that time there was no musliim empire left except ottoman empire and abdul hamid 2 without a doubt was a caliph as the last muslim leader left at that time. He took that responsibilty and took care of entire muslim ummah he fought against british to save muslim indians. He protected uighyurs in china and built hejaz railway that not only connected arab but the muslim world so they could easily reach makkah and madinah. He was indeed a true and last powerful caliph

It is an overall good documentary, but you might a small mistake. It is not true that Constantinople changed it's name to Istanbul right after Sultan Mehmet Fatih's conquest. Rather, the name Constantinople was actually used as an official one up to the formation of the republic in 1923. The name Istanbul likewise has an origin that dates back to Byzantine time.

I don't think the European powers immediately recognized the Turkish republic because of some plot. I find it an idealistic view of history, France, for example, held good diplomatic relations with the ottomans in many different occasions. Rather, Europe needed a stable Turkey to use against the red menace in the USSR, as a lot of European powers were getting directly involved in the russian civil war, and Turkey was well known as a long time rival of Russia...
