Thanks a lot for this video!
ОтветитьNice! chroot install with btrfs + encryption. This is all pretty much the gold standard. This video will be referenced for years to come. Thanks for making this!
ОтветитьNice work
Ответитьmy favorite way of installing void
ОтветитьI wish all distros give us the options to manually install like that, as nice as GUI installers are, many of them don't allow easily configuring subvolumes or partitions. I always thought installing Arch was hard, just from what people on the internet made me believe and that kept me away for long, now It's the only method I can appreciate, and this is practically the same.
I know Debian has something called Debootstrap, but it's kinda complicated compared to this.
Thanks a lot Jake, your channel is one of my favorite channels in the linux world!
I bet I'll have to try Void in a virtual machine...
ОтветитьLove your videos. I appreciate it!!! Thank you!!!
ОтветитьWhat an absolute beast! I've been wanting to understand not only how to install Void like this, but also to do it with BTRFS!
You're always reviewing what I'm thinking! I would likely not have even tried Void if not for your channel!!
ohhhh so thats how to get the uuid.... eheh....😅
btw why use cat sometimes? why not ed or vi or something? Any specific reason?
Good Video as always Jake.
ОтветитьAmazing! You're the goat
ОтветитьVery cool stuff.
Maybe not for newbie but still a great tutotial for those who want to install Void and want to keep things secure.
Sweet vid Jake.
ОтветитьLast time I had gone through the void docs, I saw they had used LVM with encryption. I was thinking which was better, LVM or btrfs subvolumes
ОтветитьAnother great video! I always install Void with chroot method and use BTRFS but didn't know much about the encryption. Your channel is always an amazing resource.
ОтветитьThank you for the first human readable btrfs guide I have ever seen. Personally I have a LVM on luks2 partition besides grub dual boot with windows, so I'm not sure if the luks2 w/ grub issue is just a KVM issue. Cheers to your tutorial!
Ответитьvery nice video, void is a pretty good distro, tried it for a while and loved it, still decided to move because of specific apps that you only get in flats or snaps... even tried a bedrock arch layer and it worked, but super bloated because of bedrock, all this to say, maybe in the future, void might become a titan on the linux world
ОтветитьTime to follow this in a vm. My AMD Framework has been a little finicky with getting a stable GUI running. Mint, just fine but boring. Gentoo, everything worked great but no gui. Artix, worked well until it didn't. I spent enough time troubleshooting and hopped again. NixOS seems to be the answer as of now. But the boot process seems to take a hot minute. And wayland hasn't been too stable recently. I hope once I migrate my config to a flake I will have all the issues addressed. If not, I may have to hop again. Void was my least favorite of the more manual distros. But I didn't hate it, if that makes sense.
ОтветитьJust wanted to thank you for help regarding mounting additional hard drives in Void. I was missing elogind package as you wrote, after elogind install and service start I can mount other hard drives under Void.
ОтветитьNice bro , that btrfs stuff really helped void needs like your totorials , could you make one about unified kernel images and secureboot
ОтветитьOh, it's you Jesus boy! You just got recommended.
Ответитьnice video but i would like to show how to install a desktop and set up automount and .xsession... hope to see them in the next video...
p.s i do not like btrfs and modernday trends...
Was going to install void on my old laptop hell yea, glad everything's all good Jake. Lots of love
ОтветитьI'm forced to watch this video! From my inner voice.
Ответитьluks2 can be used with grub
ОтветитьI'm still trying to create some template for Autodesk Maya and Vesktop, is not hard but I don't know if I can make this work
ОтветитьEverything seemed to work out fine for me but now when I land land into my account (still without desktop environment) I can’t connect to my WiFi. Even tho it lists my home network, I can’t seem to connect to it. I asked chatgpt as well and it told me to do „dhclient" but I don’t have that installed yet. I would appreciate it a lot if someone could help troubleshoot that issue
Ответитьwut if i dont want to encrypt... can u make a video that is titled "installing void linux the archlinux way"
Ответить@JakeLinux: not sure if you've covered this in past videos (if so, apologies for redundancy)
as i have not seen all your videos (yet) 🙂
two programs that may help/assist void users are: vpm and octoxbps. they are both in the void repos.
vpm is like apt/dnf/yay/zypper for easier syntax to use in a terminal than xbps-install/query. the other is:
octoxbps which is similar to debian's synaptic or arch octopi; a graphical install manager.
appreciations for void coverage and your forthrightness
peace ~ cheers
Could you do another videos similar to this one using zfs on root with encryption?
ОтветитьI installed void linux on a proxmox vm. I updated it weekly, until it no longer boots. Now I call it de-void.. 8o)
Ответитьcan you share this script? very good way to create VM's.
ОтветитьКак установить правильно: nftables на voidlinux?
ОтветитьYou have a typo under Step 2 - Chroot - 2nd code block: "cp /etc/resolve.conf /mnt/etc/" Should be "cp /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/etc/"
Ответитьhow much does the / directory weigh? df -h ?
Ответитьwhat is difference between this way and way using "void-installer"
ОтветитьWhat is special with void?
Ответитьi use a system that uses MBR instead of UEFI, i dont know what to do and what to encrypt.
Ответить@JakeLinux please show me how to install void linux on a laptop with wpa setup.
ОтветитьHow to create a distro through void?
Just need to change the name, desktop environment and etc.
great stuff, thanks for making this
Ответитьits kinda different than arch, i wanna try but in a more simple way, no luks and no btrfs, just ext4 or xfs, for fast install i just wanna try things before delete arch and install void on real machine
ОтветитьThis is a great guide! If I'm not terribly interested in encrypting my drive would I just omit the "encrypt" step and replace instances of /dev/mapper/cryptvoid with /dev/sda2, change the fstab appropriately, leave out the luks part of the grub config, and skip the keyfile stuff?
Given my use case I doubt it'll be much of an issue to have my drive encrypted.
Just not F'ing worth it.. it would take me a week to get this thing up and running.
ОтветитьGreat Vid Man. No need to apologize…. You’re helping us.
ОтветитьThis is exactly what i needed, thanks
