The reason those "drakes" are not dragons is because they are wyverns. ^^ There are no actual drakes in that valley, it's just called that because wyverns and dragon carcasses are both draconids. :D Eeeven though wyverns are entirely unrelated to dragons, because they aren't draconids. <.<;

There is No softlock with the Ghosts. You can get cursed by Basilisk in the depths and then you can Hit the Ghosts all day long

If you go to where you souls dropped just far enough to aggro the silver knight to use his sword and then turn around, walk forward a tiny bit, and leave your back to him he'll always go for a backstab animation and fall of the ledge. Since I've discovered this trick it has been extremely reliable and consistent as it's never failed. This has completely removed that silver knight as a hurdle in all my playthroughs because of used to always struggle getting passed him no matter how much better I got.

The Drakes aren't Dragons because they don't have four legs+wings. Drakes only have four limbs total: two wings, two hind legs.
