I had a new OBGYN start discussing my hymen and virginity with me unprovoked. She was Muslim and started getting all religious with me about it. It was extremely inappropriate. I was there for a routine exam.

At 12 years old when my grandfather and step grandmother took custody of me, my step grandmother took me to the health dept and had that exam done on me. Fkn traumatizing. No one explained anything. I was just told to undress, get on the table, feet in stirrups.

Hmmmm after reading all these comments now I'm curious about mine. I've never had any kind of bleeding down there that wasn't time of the month related and I've had several instances of getting popped hard in the crotch (some on accident some due to my own stupidity) so that makes me wonder if I'm A. The correct response is to Immediately bring the patient to a private room and discuss it with them to figure out what the issue at it's root is and if there's been assault, Then afterwards claim that the result of the exam was whatever the patient wants the result to be.

I had to get my hymen surgically removed because the doctor said they were unable to push the instrument for my horomonal IUD in unless they remove it. They tried with me awake and that’s when they found out how big of a problem my hymen is

It's so weird for me that parens can consider that teens can be punished for sex. Why would anyone actually be punished for sex by agreement? I totally support sex ed and open discussions of health and sex and responsibility. And these virginity check stories give me creepy vibes.

We're Iranian. When my parents wanted to get married, my paternal grandmother asked my mother for a hymen test( or as they call it "health certificate"). Thankfully, my father was waaaay more open-minded than his family and defended my mother, saying she's worth more than a piece of skin.

I didn’t tell the guy I was with I was a virgin. Idk I was embarrassed and I didn’t want to make a big deal if it. I freaking bled and he was like, you need to tell me about this. lol. I thought for sure I’d ruptured my hymen, I was always a big tomboy who had a lot of falls and stuff. I always wondered why some people bleed and some don’t their first time. My brothers Ex Girlfriend was forced through one... she hates her stepdad for that reason. He forced her to breakup with all her boyfriends...and she ended up running away and being homeless. He was pastor at my church, and was a religion's NUT JOB... years later, Her step-dad and mom divorced... We found out he had violently abused the kids. Choked his son out once. She killed herself 6 yrs ago. We never knew if he did worse.
Also, THIS WAS FLORIDA. Red/Evangelical States are happy to pass these laws allowing this. New York, and other Blue states HAVE BANNED Hymen checks and re-traumatizing victims... ugh

If is biologically proven that just like body shapes, hymens come in different forms too. There are different shapes and sizes of hymens and there are also some who are born with an open / no hymen.

1. Many things can break the hymen
2. The Hymen can remain intact in some cases with sexually active women
3. This one i dont know but ive seen claims that given time the hymen can also just heal itself like any skin or tissue damage

Idk why but this video made me cry. My dad threatened me that he was going to take me to the er to get a virginity exam, forced me into the car and drove me all the way to the hospital while I sobbed hysterically. It was so traumatic, and luckily I didn't actually have the exam but just the threat was humiliating.
