QUESTION GUYS!!!!! ---> If I get the 24-core + 64GB RAM for the 14" Macbook Pro is that OK? WIll it eat battery life with the 64GB RAM? I only keep hearing to get the 24-core with the "32GB RAM" - Any thoughts on if I get the 64GB RAM with the 24-core??

if apple works with devs to make more optimized versions of their games for mac then Macbooks would be the best gaming laptop.

I don't think that people buy this laptop for gaming! it would better you test it with professional applications that helps pro people, like testing with c4d, reshift, Blender, Adobe products with 2 large displays ...

you are the first person i have seen with a video over the exact same one i just ordered but with 1 TB of storage. i got the 24 core and 32 gib so i’m excited to see how gaming performance is. you’ve just gained a follower!

At the Hitman test the vertical sync was turned on, which locks the fps to 60 even if the gpu can get higher.

Are you using parallels or crossover for that any games tested ?

Great review, but if you choose the extra 200 $ för 24c, than you ALSO have to pay for the extra 16 GB memory. I don't know what that costs in the US, but it's a lot more than just 200 $.

It used to be so simple to decide which model of MacBook pro to pick. I'm a medium user and I'm actually quite dissuaded from choosing ANY M1 to replace my Intel MBP units just because of the stupid confusing levels Tim Cook is presenting, not that it can't be figured out with the configurator. What I'm really pissed about is logically, I cannot imagine Tim Cook and Apple actually planning these different combinations ahead of time. It would make more sense to me that the ORIGINAL plan was probably for TSMC to create a BASE model 12core/16gpu/16neural Chip, and a PRO model 12c/32g/32n Chip. Now my guess what happened in the CHIP MANUFACTURING PROCESS process is that the purity was a problem, ending with failures in different individual cores in the chips. Now instead of BINNING all the failures, Tim And Apple took all the BINNED ones and created DIFFERENT and thus even numbered cores by killing the odd core numbers, allowing almost all the BINNED CORES to be used, with much less tossed away! Today we are shown this long selection by the layered prices! That's my thought, and I'm really annoyed this pricing plan has spread to most of the new M1 range, may be the future M2 too? I'm happy only that my Intel ones are still working! Like I said elsewhere, Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave seeing these confusing prices, rather than those simple ones during his time! How does that bulb- smack you all?

wery strange cs go on gtx 1650 4gb ddr5 (the weaker version of laptop 1660) go at 120fps, toombraider on medium same fps as 1650 so no near performance to rtx3080, its not even impressive

for me the 2x Media engine is the reason for the Max. Dont care about 32 GPU cores so its nice there is a 24 core option

How come you don’t include the tax those? I’m sure you haven’t paid 2900 for it.

That $2499 Macbook Pro M1 Max performs CS:GO worse than my $1200 MSI GF65 thin.

I've just got a 16" 24 core M1 Max and the compute score on this model is 59,000, just FYI the 16" model appear to be slightly faster than the 14".

Running game cutscenes are not the same as playing the games. The Tomb Raider test is not valid. Playable scenarios are at minimum 50 FPS. Same historical issue: good hardware design but limited supporting software.

Hi Luke, I am helping a friend try to understand which MacBook Pro M1 16 inch to buy, He is a professional videographer who works for the likes of the Discovery channel and CNN to name a few. We are both in a quandary as to which configuration to buy. He uses Final Cut Pro for his high def 4k and pro videos. We dont know which cpu and memory configuration would best fit his needs. Any suggestions?

24 vs 32 core gpu i dont game a lot but that 100 fps would be pretty great over the 70 but it does cost more ik it doesnt cost a lot more but im not fully buying it myself most of the monsey my parenst are giving soo

Great benchmark, however not testing input lag in such a case where most of the games are run through translation layers is just not telling us the whole story here.

Honestly the graphics are pretty good. Not much of a lag except for like you said with the little white glitches coming up on the screen

What I currently have : 2015 mbp with i7 2.8hz with 256gb of storage for the past 5 years
Who I am: I am currently a graphic designer who mostly likes to work with digital illustration, logo design, and publishing so I primarily use photoshop, illustrator (main one) and Indesign. While I don't really use Premiere or After Effects, I have done some light video work for a few small marketing companies. I'd like to have an option of specs. that could help cover all my needs but not sure which would suit me
What I definitely want no matter what: 16in(i like the size) with at least 1tb of storage (tired of dealing with external storage stuff)
What I'd like to have but think is overkill: 16in m1 max with 24core, 32gb of ram and 1tb of storage

Those artifacts kind of resembles when you're pushing overclocked vram too high I think? Maybe it's defective?

Very good compare - Is there any way you can do a compare of the 24 vs 32 core GPUs (16" even) on battery life? Although I was thinking that the Max etc would effectively complete tasks faster and hence save battery, your CPU tests say differently

Luke when you do these comparisons can you include a not cut down M1 Mac book (or what ever replaces it as apple upgrade) for comparison to the “base chip” please? Some time I think it’s easy to forget how powerful the “basic” M SOC. thanks
