Faith + rubbing Vicks on toes = results. That's what I read in a lot of the comments, but people don't realize they were applying their faith to the process...

I've noticed that people will apply Vicks, and then put a sock on, but wouldn't the sock create a potential breeding ground for infection/bacteria?

Vics vapo rub is working for me. I just rubbed a bit into the base and side of the toe nail. It took weeks to see any result as the nail needs time to grow out all the grot.

I used Vicks on my toenails and it worked. It took a few months but it worked. Everything else over the counter didn’t work for years! But Vicks did. Maybe I was just lucky.

Who cares about the studies at this point .. the medical « experts » aren’t even interested in looking into it.
Anecdotals may not be full proof but they’re empirical evidence to those who experience it first hand.

All I know is when I stop using petroleum jelly on my hands, one thumbnail gets yellow and crumbly along the right side. It's almost like whatever I have, needs air to reproduce.

My fingernail had an infection and fell off due to acrylic nails and being nipped and then shampooing dirty hair. As my nail grew it was brown and dead and I just thought why not VICKS it helps me with everything else and everyday for 6months I had it on my wrapped up nail until grew back cleat and healthy. Nail tech said he just knew my nail would never be the same and with the use of VICKS vapor rub I proved hime wrong...

I use to wear acrylic on my big toe and I bang it pretty bad and it ended up with a fungus and losing the nail. I was in Walmart to buy Vicks and looking at some other fungal products to try this little old lady told me to get olive oil instead. I got it and it healed so fast and my toe nail grew back very fast…it’s full nail normal colored and you can’t tell anything ever happened.

Dr Jefferson, I'm in DC for the next 4 months. I'm a fan of your work. I was hoping maybe to make visit to your office. I wanted to message you with a question, but here goes. I need to see a neurologist right away. Do you know anyone? I'm staying in the Navy Yard area, but I can drive further. Maybe you can message me on Facebook or ?

I was having pedicures and noticed a small amount of discolouration on big toe nail. Began to self treat with Vick. Seemed to work then it came back worse. I decided no more pedicures and booked a podiatrist session who told me that Vick appears to work for a while as it moistens the nail and makes the colour look better. Ultimately not a cure though. I am sticking with podiatrist appointments in future booking every 8 weeks as the examination is thorough and i get the doppler test etc as well as nails cut. I am border line type 2 with circulation/mobility issues so 🤷 really i do recognise now that i should use podiatry services.

I used Vicks and the product cleared up my athletes feet and fungus within 2 weeks. I rubbed a nice amount on both feet after showering, then I wrapped them in plastic wrap each night before bed.

I used to get pedicures. The chemical the techs use so the polish dries quickly dried out my nails and made them flaky. My hairdresser advised me to use Vicks to moisten. It worked and I don’t get pedicures anymore.

I had nasty nails on both feet. One summer I rubbed a thick layer of Vicks on all my toe nails nearly every day for 3 months or more. I used a clean q tip to apply it. Left foot cleared up. Right foot still has some issues with the nails. I started reapplying this summer. I do all nails just in case the nasty stuff wants to jump to another toe or foot. I guess it depends on how much and how long. I did mine right after a hot shower and a water jet blasting at my toes.

Vick's Vaporub is essentially Vaseline (petroleum jelly) with menthol. Neither will treat—let alone cure—fungal anything. Especially fungal toenails. That menthol sure feels good on the feet, especially tired, aching feet though! (And of course great for relief when you've got a cold, flu, etc.) But it won't cure fungus.
And Vaseline/petroleum jelly is not a moisturizer. It's a protectant. It forms a protective barrier on the skin to minimize the effects of dry weather, wind and more on the skin. But it won't keep feet or any other part moisturized unless the skin has already been moisturized.
But family traditions, myths and anecdotes are powerful and often hard to overcome with even the best medical evidence.
Thanks for bringing your trusted face and credentials to respectfully inform the public. 👊

I had toe nail fungus. Did everything my foot dr. said and did. Even after removing that nail. I still had the fungus. Well I put Vick on that toe for a whole year. Finally the fungus was gone. I asked my family dr. If Vick’s get rid of toe nail fungus. He said yes but takes a year or longer. Well it worked for me. Just saying.
