The best thing you can tell your children and I think is more important than school, President Lincoln never went to school and learnt everything he knew from reading books chopped wood to sell by rafting it to places down river and the people voted him for President, thats why they called him honest abe..One thing i wish i had done more of when I was younger is

I'm ambivalent about his statements here. I think it's cool to advocate for podcasts as an evolution of books insofar as yes, they are providing an accessible and convenient medium for people who otherwise would not or could not engage with a topic. But he also seems to be advocating uncritically for multi-tasking culture when someone in his field should know better.

Yes, listening to a podcast while you do other things will provide more educational value than doing them in silence, but you absolutely will not "get a university degree's worth of knowledge." More than likely, you'll get some glib talking points and recognition of a subject. But you won't have learned anything substantial and lasting.

And that's because learning, real learning is a concerted activity that requires your sustained attention and effort. There are no easy brain hacks. It's unsexy work like anything else.

To be fair, reading a few books on a topic won't make you an expert either. But for anyone who does read (well), there's simply no comparison. The depth and rate at which you can acquire information is exponentially quicker and deeper than you'll get from listening speak the same information.

Things worth learning demand your full attention. There are no shortcuts.

I picked six books I want to read within a year. I read about 1-5 pages a day from each book. I write down in notes what I read and compare it to my life and how these scenarios can help men on life.

How many audio books are available for pre-1920 books? I mean serious books from the deeper past.

I'm fond of reading but audiobooks and podcasts do help a lot and it's also convenient as you can multitask while listening and learning something. I'm working out while listening to this video btw.

Books have the advantage of you can go back and reread a section or even sentence much easier than trying to scroll back. And then try to scroll back again.

Hey guys, what's up? So, I started to learn english some months ago, but i consider my knowledge very poor and basic. Every single day i'm trying to improve my skills ans increase my abilies in the language. How was told in the video, there's many podcasts with valuable subjects and that are good to see. If someone know any podcas of this kind, please tell me. It'll help me so much to acquaire acquaintance with the language and learn more useful and good matters. Thanks so much.

Listening to audio books and podcasts is only good when doing something else I feel. Reading helps to bring the focus back and calm the brain down, from my experience.

I just finished Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy today. Absolutely fantastic American classic detailing the abhorrence of the Apache skin trade in the 1840's. It goes deep into human nature and I've left with lessons that I think will stick with me my lifetime. Starting The Road by McCarthy as soon as my order gets in. Read people, it changes you.

Man Ethan goes from interviewing the Jordan Peterson being actually charitable to declaring war on Aba and Preach forgiving you a hard time for being a ideological bully to a twenty-something year old for setting boundaries for what he wants in women.

The Batman parable, “you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain,” is no more true that with H3H3. 😢❤

I don’t understand this obsession that successful people have with reading. IMHO, it’s no better than watching videos or Binging/googling something. In fact I think bing chat is far better than reading a book because what your asking is 1 relevant to you, and 2 a back and forth conversation instead of passive absorption of information. Yes reading can be good if people take their time to think about the content and stop speed reading. But I still feel like I remember Jordan Peterson videos better than popular books.
