Fun fact: When Peter started filming this scene, he wanted people who read the books and could recite the whole scene, he wanted those people in the front lines of the Rohirrin Charge, everyone who didn't read the books was behind the front lines.

Theoden, a true King, came out of a coma, went to war TWICE, led the men out of helms deep, led his men to war to save another kingdom. Epic life, a king for the ages.

Tolkiens Rohirrim charge was inspired by historical battle at Vienna 1683. 18000 Calvary charge was lead by 3000 Polish winged hussars down a hill against overwhelmingly large Ottoman forces and smashing through the whole military camp causing panic chaos and retreat of the Holy Muslim army.

That’s the Dog you ride on the charge of Rohirrim, and traumatized even Sauron himself

this scene becomes even crazier and even more of enjoyable to watch when you realize it was based off a real cavalry charge
