Is reverse engineering actually illegal? Stealing property is, but making your own slightly different thing has long been standard practice among competitors.

I'm liking all you're videos on the consoles of yesteryear,i'll be checking back for more videos.Did you ever do a video on the Amiga CD32 console?.That would be an interesting one to watch.

When I was 11 I researched the shit out of it and bought a plug mod and the disc door spring that kept the door button pressed down and burned so my games. Every console after that was modded lol.

Fun story: whilst I was in college doing electronic engineering the mod chip scene took off when I was in my second year, there were maybe 6 of us per class, so we'd moved next door to the lab and the new first years came in, there was maybe 8 of them as well - I was 17 years old at the time, the first years were 16.

After a while the first years turned the lab into a ps1 modding shop, the lecturers saw it as an interest and liked that they were learning the skills... Until it was revealed they were earning a load of money doing it and the college put a stop to it.

But for a brief moment in time, a college electronic engineering lab became a ps1 mod shop.

The SEGA Mega Drive or Genesis only physical region locking. The cartridges where different shapes for different regions but they worked perfectly fine if you modified your console or cartridge

Back then reverse engineering was allowed and now some modders are getting sued and taken to court just for doing some things that the developers should've done themselves.

I'm going to go against the EA hate and say that Desert Strike (the helicopter game) was my sh...stuff back then. I considered asking mom for a 32x or Saturn back then just for the upcoming remake/re-release of Jungle Strike. Poor alternate timeline me, that received the Sega hardware from mom for Xmas, instead of saving up for an N64 myself.

Lol I remember that bs "Sega Seal" in 2nd grade 1989ish, I had cut it out of a Gaming Magazine and made it sound like a big deal. My friend had something I wanted to trade for, don't remember what, and out of nowhere, he said he would give it to me if I gave him that "Seal" lol. Kids right??

I still think Sir Alan Sugar had the best anti-piracy system for his Amstrad CPC 464 Microcomputer. (Yeah, while America was arguing over Sega vs Nintendo or having a video game market crash, the UK was having a huge micro-computer war)
When he discovered that people were duplicating the audio-tapes that the games came on, his solution was to start selling double cassette decks, so you can pirate your games on hardware sold by him.

If when the game was booted, the player selected something to insert the TMSS requirements, would that be a loophole to avoid copyright?
