Colombia paragliding crash

Seems to me that Situational Awareness' was sadly lacking in such a risky hobby, but it is easy for me to say that, I have the benefit of hindsight' with so much sky to be in I find it difficult to understand how you two could coliid with one another, but aeroplanes do it from time to time with all of the technology they have. Take from it what you can. Thankfully you two are okay and that's all that matters in the end.

So, it looks like both pilots were turning right but only she was looking right.The male pilot didn't look and judging by the speed, must have had a tailwind to come upon her so fast. Thats spooky to see her reserve wouldn't even come out of the pouch even with her help, repacks annually are well worth it and need to be done with trained people overseeing if possible.

It looked to me like he crashed into her and then started telling her what to do. The only reason he's still alive is because of her.

How can human beings display such a total lack of intelligence? No other creature would risk it's existence on such a pointless act.

What kind of paraglider is circling the pilot in that strange way? Dragging in the front one moment, and lagging behind the next... I fly paragliders but have never seen anything like this!

This is exactly why you need to make sure we are all turning with the same center point.... a very neglected point in most flying sites.

Both are clowns and she is incompetent. All that room up there and they ran into each other. I have been flying over 25 years and never had a collision.

Buzz clearly made that final turn without shoulder checking. Completely in the wrong.

The scene where someone is screaming throw your reserve throw your reserve as if you weren't trying to untangle the reserve as you were falling through the air oh my God if that wasn't me I just don't know how. This idiot, crashing into her by being careless then shouting right away to throw her reserve is super annoying.

God, I hate these posts that use extreme fish eye views. Trying to maintain situational awareness while viewing these gives me a headache.

That camera made watching this feel like a bad acid trip. Glad you're OK. I'd have needed a change of undergarments after that.

Amazing calmness by the female pilot with her rescue. Saved them both. This incident was 100% the fault of the male pilot. The female pilot is clearly skilled and was keeping a good lookout at all times.

That looked exciting

The male pilot came very close in a couple of turns prior to the coming together. The female was thermaling the correct way but seemed to me to be on the edge of the thermal, certainly not in the core, however, the guy made that last turn without looking IMO he knew she was in the vicinity and to me it just looked like he put that turn in without proper observation, who’s right and who’s wrong matter not when you’re dead.
Overall the burden lies with the guy, he just didn’t look in my opinion.

That looked fantastic until everything went wrong, it looked terrifying. Genuinly hope you were both okay.

Skydivers always cutaway from their main before deploying their reserve chute. Why don’t paraglider pilots do this? I understand perhaps there isn’t always the altitude to do this, but it’s not surprising the mains became tangled with all the other lines and canopies.

It annoys me how the paraglider who collided with the filming pilot kept saying “throw your reserve!!” over and over making an already stressful situation all the more stressful (and perhaps contributing to the filming pilots fumbling mess with the reserve).

I’m glad you are both ok, and I hope you were able to get back in the sky soon afterwards. This accident probably saved your lives and many others. You’ll be much safer pilots after this experience.
