NEWS UPDATE- anyone reading this as of late 2022 or after, the developers have actually fixed the game up quite nicely, and I’d put it up against almost any other metroidvania, and yes I absolutely remember how bad it was… well, maybe not “bad” just unbalanced. Whatever, it’s good now, go play it and stop reading the thoughts of some random idiot!

That's less of a SotN thing than a 'any 2d game with jump attacking' thing. Because of how 2d platforming and animation systems work, the path of least resistance is to just allow the dumb jump attack hopping instead of doing extra work to make ground/air attacks consistent.

edit: watching further, Chasm seems to animate the player in top and bottom halves, so they could theoretically reuse the swinging animations and let you move while attacking... they just chose not to. : (

Would Have BEEN VERY NICE If The Devs Decided To Buff The Damage And Not Make It "Order of Ecclesia"-like To Give You Exclusive Weapons When You Beat A Boss.

One Major Problem Really, Is That The Best Weapons AND Armors Are Obtained WAY TOO LATE, Like All Other Metroidvanias, But This One.... You NEED The Best Weapons And Armors Without RNG In Enchants, So Everyone Can Actually Enjoy Playing This.

Plus The RNG Of Food Items.... Ugh.... What A Waste. Might As Well Go Scavenger-mode In This Game, Like Astalon: Tears Of The Earth, Rather.

I picked up chasm because I had nothing to play, and I enjoyed quite a lot. The only thing I didn’t like was it’s difficultly especially in the Keep area. But that’s what I get for playing on hard.

a good metroidvania shouldn't require notes or a hand drawn map to figure out where you need to back track to. I found myself scratching my head more than once on Chasm. And the last level was such a dud - I didn't bother finishing it. The game went from regular challenge to unenjoyable. As you progress through a good metroidvania you should get more powerful. Last boss should be hard, but getting to the last boss I felt like all my upgrades were not helping me at all and I was back to when I started the game. Too bad.
