I have wanted to try EC2 as a game server host for a while and running a 7 Days to Die dedicated server seemed like a great way to test!
I've hosted 7 Days to Die servers before but never modded them. I was surprised at how easy it was! You basically find a mod compatible with your version and extract it into a Mods/ folder. That's it.
I'm pretty happy with the custom game mode. It basically disable the 'Tower-Defense' mechanic and replaces it with generally more difficult and less predictable game play.
Here are the main tweaks if you want to try it out:
- set GameDifficulty to 3
- set XPMultiplier to 150 (or 200 if solo)
- set BloodMoonFrequency to 0
- set ZombieMoveNight to 1
- set ZombieFeralMove to 2
