I love this game.
everyone has perfect lives. never cold, never hungry, a public house, alcohol, children get to be apprentices, the sick get care homes, the deceased get a nice ceremony, hours never increase, policies are never enacted by force...

the entire city wants to leave

Btw there's another good start that I tried which let me eventually win the scenario. First thing is assign to Wood and Steel only. No need for coal yet. Build a Workshop ASAP within the first day and have 5 engineers set aside to start researching. I recommend you start with researching heaters then sawmills and steelmills and then the beacon. Have the workshop do an emergency shift and build 8 tents before 2 am or else people will die from the cold. If everyone is in the central ring and in tents before 2 am then you won't have any problems and don't even need to turn the generator on until the 4th day. Once you exhaust one or two of the wood/steel wreckages I recommend you start stockpiling coal and invest in some resource depots at the far edges of your crator. You're safe postponing turning the generator on until the end of the 3rd day as long as everyone has homes by the end of day 1.

This is very detailed, thx. Does it work on hard? I finished my first run on normal and I am trying a hard one. I noticed that discontentment is way more annoying, last run I didnt even touched arenas, but on hard i just had to. I see you placed the beacon and depots on a future heat zone, I wonder if you change it later. I'm also going for a no gen range achievment, so i'm experimenting with steam hubs districs, I placed them so that their heat zone reach just at the end of generator heat, but this leaved me two unused squares between the gen and the districts, so i guess it's not optimal but it's working until now, day 24.

Any reason you didn't go for gathering posts? limited my road building to reaching both posts that covered three resource piles (wood, wood, steel), and managed to squeeze out a single workshop with them by noon. Roughly along the line where you placed your first one, engineers on steel till I got enough to build the workshop, then pulled them off and threw them at construction of the shop and wood. Had to pull eight guys off wood at noon to get just under 60 coal for the night from the pile that isn't part of a pair but was able to build 8 tents, two more workshops, and the street connections to power them.

24hr shifted the first workshop, unless I did both at the same time, I couldn't keep the coal pile going as well. That killed someone when I tried so I loaded the save (first time going through the game) and held myself to just the workshop. I feel I'm in a pretty good position from there to go extended shift on the all my worksites (two supporting workshops, two gathering centers, a coal and steel pile) till I have enough to build the beacon in the morning, and start pulling workers off the steel to build it and send out a scout team.

With a bit of luck I think I can have all but four coal piles picked up by the end of day three with this set up. Tech wise after faster gathering and beacon, started on sawmills and steelworks to provide resource streams once the scrap is collected.

I find that you only need around 30 units of coal to make it through the first night. One needs to delay turning on the generator until 0200.
When I start thr game and taking advantage on pause I initially assign 15 x 2 workers on wood collection, then an initial 10 wotkers on steal collection.
I then build 2 workshops, and assign another 5 workers to steal collection and then 5 workers and 5 engineers and 5 wokers on coal collection.

I ensure no more than 15 steel and 30 units of coal are collected.
Once this is reached I assign them to wood collection , in between all of this ny work shops have been built and inventing faster gathering. I remove an engineer and assign them to wood gathering so there is an extra 13 people working on the other piles of wood. Once the faster gathering is developed I assign 4 engineers from the workshop to wood dollection , and start to invent the next stage of technology.
When 1800 comes I am left with enough resources to build.
3 gathering posts, a medical centre the roads to connect them to the generator and most of the time a cookhouse.
I have found there is no need whateofer to use the emergency shift and only select these to get to the extended shift

set everyone on to 14 hour shifts


For day 2 Once your gathering posts , cook house, medical center is developed assign all the workers, the spare workers set to wood collection , and when stage one of technology is completed develope a wood mine.
this at the end of day 2 should.leave you with enough resources to build 8 tents the other 2 resource posts and to develop a becon

after you get research get research the coal and assign some workers to them and you have enough coal to sustain you unless you have made other places that use coal you might have to make more of them
