One of the biggest selling points for us of the XboxHD+ is what we like to call the 'plus features'. While other solutions and other mods focus just on the output, the XboxHD+ is also laser-focused on adding additional features that are only possible with our software/hardware combinations.
- Native frame buffer output that can completely bypass the built-in output scaler. (Reducing blurriness in the output image)
- Native 480P output on all titles. A large part of the Original Xbox's library only runs in interlaced and our software outputs all titles natively in progressive. (Which isn't possible with any other setup)
- Fixes games and kernel bugs. Did you that there are over 20 titles that refuse to run at all or with severe graphical issues on the 1.6 revision of the Xbox? The XboxHD+ fixes all of those with no need for patching games.

I somehow bought a fully working original Xbox at a garage sale with all the cables, a controller and a couple games. I sold those games and bought namco museum and a shitty version Tetris.

This is imo why modchips are still king when it comes to the original XBOX. It provides a lot of brickproofing for when the disc drive inevitably dies, and just being able to toss in a hard drive without having to deal with the HDD locking stuff and using something like CHIMP is honestly just so good.

I feel the best option when it comes to retro video games is to play on original hardware with the most optimal monitor for a system. This means owning multiple televisions or monitors throughout your collections without the need for upscalers, mods or converters. Most people are trying to force NES or Dreamcast on modern flat screens when that will never give the ideal overall experience. Depending on the systems generation, there are better options than mods or converters that provide the top experience. For instance professional plasma tvs provide the best contrast levels, blacks and whites. Professional level CRTs add scan lines and pixel definition. Vintage VGA computer monitors offer rich colors. There are good features found in all forms of technology. None of them are dead but many are impossible nowadays to find. In my opinion the best feature of modern panels are convenience, brightness and size, however you loose some of the magic.

SCART was horrendous. It was a thick cable that often had a strange offset to the connector, they were super easy to knock loose by touching the cable and although they don't look it, they were very difficult to insert without looking, and before the age of flatscreens plugging a SCART lead in could be a real trial of dexterity.

I think we are so similarly minded, from what i can tell from your Videos, at a similar age (im a Y2k). I have been doing Console mods for years nd started soldering when i was 13, id just love to have a chat with you.

Another interesting alternative has come out recently. Someone has been taking the xbox 360 component cables and fitting the original xbox av connector on them. I've got one and it's a big step up from the cheap China cables!

I got the HD AV pack and being able to use my Xbox on my Trinitron CRT at 480p/720p/1080i with Dolby Digital through optical is awesome. Also using HD Retrovision component.

When getting stuck heatsinks off, I use a hair dryer to heat up the sinks for a few seconds and it usually works.

Just by an Xbox 360 with HDMI and play Xbox original games on the 360 plus you don't have to remove the AV port so 360 is the way I picked

Shit, I found one of those component video boxes for Xbox at a GoodWill about a year ago for for $3. Didn’t buy it since I didn’t have an Xbox at the time, but I really regret it.

2. depends on interface cable and depends whether or not you got the hd adapter with the console or brought it separately
3. cable density also played apart..

1.scart (best resolution ((if TV supported it..))
2. Component ((video quality differed pending on the screen it was on))
S-video (max resolution 720x576 limitation in pal territory of AUSTRALIA {bus limitation})
composite Pending on monitor would render better than rf
RF IN 2022 vs when analog tv signal was still in use could be comparable to the likes of composite when the xbox came out

with the lack analog tv signals today I would think you can still use rf if you wish and get a better resolution on it since you aren't competing with analog tv signals today

So just got my first OG Xbox and did the time capacitor removal as per your vid...
Mine was leaking bad, but doesn't appear to have wrecked anything else luckily, not sure yet tho because I haven't tested, but the seller said it worked before he sent it and he seemed genuine.

Anyway, I legit have no way to plug in the xbox as I have no way of using composite as none of my 3 tv's support it.
So, I have ordered the hyperkin hdmi cable, but wondering how this mod compares to it (I really want best pic quality possible)

Now, why exacly do you need to remove the analog video out?

Is it because of space constraints? Cant you just have both and make another hole in the case to fit hdmi plug into?

I highly recommend re-capping your board while you have it open to do this mod, a lot of those caps in the original xbox(not just the clock cap) are pretty cheap and bound to fail eventually, recap it now and it will last another ~20 years.

I would love to see a follow up video regarding the open source component solution you mentioned. Though I imagine it would be sort of redundant for you since you have this mod, if nothing else it would serve as a great demonstration of the component solution. Unfortunately I'm stuck using the composite cables myself, and I am not confident enough in my skills yet to attempt this mod on my only Xbox. Anyway, great video and outstanding visuals of the comparison at the end!

can you use the same AV ports on ps2 or 3?

I have a second Xbox though so going to be more careful with that AV port removal and put it on the first Xbox…

I bought a O.G. Xbox when they where on sale and i was always into getting the best picture quality in HD so i bought the Monster cables Component cables for the Xbox and it looks really good with no drop out issues and the cables also came with an digital optical out port and fiber optic cable for digital surround sound I do have a Sony 27inch CRT TV that is for Retro gaming and I also have a 2014 40inch Samsung 4k TV that has one Component input and the picture looks great.
I will buy this mod and sit on it just in case i decide to use it in the future but sure do seems like a lot of work but for those who dont have a component jack TV or cables i defiantly see how this is a must.
P.S.......He didn't put enough Thermal paste on the GPU it a big chip and the X method on applying should be used for proper coverage.

You don't have to remove the standard av port to make it work.
On the microcontroller (Pic I think, also power and eject come there) there are 3 pins for video output selection mode.
You need to switch 2 of them to ground when you use HD video mode.

With these 2 switchable it is possible to select the video output mode.
There is enough space above the av-port to add a hole for the hdmi port and use a bracket for the pcb.

Or make a Dongle with the bridges in them for in the av port.

I did conversion from Xbox 360 component cable. Cheap one I had didn't have any shielding on the cables.
