Dylan and Petty sound like honking ducks coming in after Roy Orbison. They both have interesting voices in their own right, I suppose. Harrison and Lynne are excellent singers. But this song really illustrates, when put next to Jeff and George, how amazing Roy's voice was.

my husband and I happened to be relaxing at the hotel pool where Jeff was taking a day off. This album had just been released and I bought it and it became my fav! I really didn't get who he was as we talked about it's songs. Today I shudder to realize he was in ELO at the time.... and was so cool to be with people who didn't get how famous he was....lol. Maybe that was the best part of our company for Jeff. I hope so. He took a call from George in his room, coming back to the pool, he told us. Sorry I didn't get a stary-eyed! We just enjoyed his company. Rock on Jeff, where ever you are.

These men shared many experiences separately. To see them sing about them together in this brilliantly and collaboratively crafted song continues to move, even after all these years. Once, pop music meant something. You could feel it. I no longer feel anything listening to contemporary radio, stripped as it is of humanity and, frankly, true musicianship. If there are any actual musicians playing or singing, the production process puts paid to their real talent to the end of homogenizing them, turning every "artist" into just another Disney-Pixar creation. That's why I'd rather go to my corner bar to hear the local bands than to big concerts, not 'cause the tix are expensive for Taylor Swift, but because, though they may not be as talented or "successful", now and again I need real music, real voices, real emotion. Bye, bye Miss American Pie.
