I caught this by chance while working into Odoo from the V14 Community Edition. I have posed this question to a Business Advisor for EMEA, but havent received a plausible answer.
As standard in Germany we have the problem that for Quotes, Order Confirmations and Invoicing, We need prefixes for each of these subjects, followed by year and month and then a counter in each subject as well. In other words as invoices need to stay in sequence and no number can be skipped or repeated Invoice numbers cannot share the same global counter with Quotes or Order Confirmations. Pretty simple situation, where you want to set this in the system before we start generating any documents. In other words making the settings before the counter 001 in each category starts.

Also given that this prefix will always stay the same, but as we generate these documents for this year, next year the counter should be reset to 001 in each category, but also the correct year and month from the system should change automatically during the generation of any documents in that specific year and month.

Now we have seen the video on "sequencing" but this doesnt really cover the requirement, as we do not want to manually adjust this at any time. Simply said we want to set this and then it just works for this year and every additional year. Until we have this issue worked out we cannot finish the testing, as reports and such will also link to the prefixes, year and month in order to get performance reports. I see this as standard functionality, that is also common in other market software. It would be great if someone could answer this so I contunue the testing phase.
