My truck has it but i dont use it. The water pump will still run and stuff while engine is off to balance cooling. If oil temp is higher after a good tow up a mountain it wont shut off when it stops. Or if ac is on. Transmission pumps and coolant still run when engine is off.

If you ever drive in Boston do not drive below the speed limit or you’ll get killed.

This is fake news. Cars with stop/start are designed with this in mind. Common sense is not common and this guy is proof of that fact.

Common sense without knowledge is not much use.
Before putting out this crap he should learn about the subject.
What he says is 100% correct although there is a big BUT.
He has not learnt that these cars are designed to cope with this technology. Maybe his dodgy Bimer needs special care but that is a specific case not relevant to other cars.
Don't be fooled by these people who don't know what they are talking about.
If anyone disagrees with me, please show me evidence I am wrong and not just your unfounded opinions.

Drove an 2024 Audi Q3 the other day and felt like the brake pads stuck to the rotors on take off? No thanks. Unbelievable...

Auto stop start is not for saving gas but to reduce emissions. There is a lot of engineering to make this work including but not limited to starters that have a life of at least 370,000 cycles (8-10 years of average driving). Sensors to monitor battery voltage to ensure it doesn't fall below 7 volts which would normally shut down all the electronics in the car. Electric pump to circulate coolant to maintain heat in the winter. Pump to maintain hydraulic pressure in the automatic transmission so there is no lag when restarted. Position sensors on the crank so that in effect the engine is on pause and picks up where it was before shutting off. This is why it can start instantly and doesn't need several seconds of cranking.

Are you an auto mechanical engineer? Don’t you think car maker stupid to make this features? If car has start stop feature then there is special starter motor! Most of big car manufacture like BMW, Mercedes has it and I’m sure they aware of this, Please don’t misleading people.

Is there any way to switch it off this feature by default in 2014 model 5 series?

Stop start technology as the motor manufacturers call it is a gimmick to fool buyers into buying more of their cars it’s a waste of time also when you replace your battery it is considerably more expensive than a normal battery of a car without stop/start

Now there's a man talking sense, 👍I would never use it even if it was on my car, and would never buy a car that I couldn't turn it off, not only the wear to the starter the flywheel as well.

What a crock of horse pucky. The stop start device has NO DELETERIOUS effect on anything on any motor vehicle. These are urban myths. Your starter is heavy duty and sized for this feature. Your battery should be an oversize AGM as OE and specified for this gadget. Your piston rings will have plenty of oil film thickness as will your connecting rod bearings, main bearings and valve train. Does it save fuel - maybe, but really how much in the life of a vehicle. Is it a pain in the a$$ - that I will agree with, especially in stop and go driving when I turn mine off

There is no significant saving of fuel with this auto start-stop thing. In fact the action of re-starting the engine each time consume more drops of petrol than actually saving it. This "invention" is the worst "invention" ever !
