Question for Viewers: Does the baton ever work as intended?
Ответить"I'm bad at using this tool, so you shouldn't use it either"
Ответить"these are not a self defense tool, these are a weapon"
Bro that's the same thing. You defend yourself using weapons when you are outmatched.
Just asking: I think you are assuming a US crowd, with permissive gun laws, and better alternatives. What if this is the only legal defense? Is it better than nothing for an untrained person, facing someone with a knife?
ОтветитьLol of course they are a weapon. So is a pen, so is a brick, etc (weapons of opportunity). A Baton is a multi tool, it depends entirely on context. It absolutely has a place on a police officer's belt.
Ответитьsome cops here in so cal still still use well ware the like huge yardstick long straight wood batons, mainly for intimidation factor, and i imagine so they can pin someone to a wall with it, they are all big huge tall cop tho, i just dont get how they can run with that thing swinging down the whole lenqth of there leg.
ОтветитьI bought one of these "Batons" for my wife to add to the arsenal of stuff I had already given her. I gave her an "order" of deployment of usage for each item. 1. Pepper Spray (keep them at a distance) 2. Tazer 3. Baton. If the pepper spray should fail due to the toxicity level of the assailant or natural ability to deal with the pepper spray then raise the bar by using the Stun gun. Many of you know some folks adrenaline can make a stun gun be nothing more than a toy, so then comes the baton. I explained to her the baton isn't to be used to scare off or be waved around to deter, they will take it from you and beat you with it. She is no more than 4'11, so I further explained that trying to strike the individual to his head or torso would be futile. She doesn't have the power behind it to cause serious take down, so I told her to that if the assailant is still walking towards her with pepper spray in eyes and mouth and having been stunned to go all out with the baton on his knee caps. If this all fails, then I will give the guy a damn award when I get there. Thankfully she no longer rides public transportation. Thank you for this episode, appreciate the knowledge.
ОтветитьI appreciate your use of statistics in a wide range of scenarios thanks for sharing this video it was an interesting watch.
ОтветитьI can definitely tell you we're a cop...lmao
ОтветитьNto very convincing arguments this time, with all due respect. You are saying it doesn't work for self defense because it doesn't work for cops. As a civilian who doesn't have a permit for a gun but can carry a baton, It can save my life lawfully.
ОтветитьI like your argument, but I disagree. I have actually used my ASP Talon 60cm in a self defense scenario before and it was very effective. So what happened was me and this guy got in an argument over me bumping into his girl in this big ass packed club in NYC where you bump into people wherever you walked and anyway guy kept trying to fight me and I was trying to de escalate because I was drunk but not shitfaced like the other guy mind you this started like 20 min before the club was closing and he just keeps going with it even following me yelling at me outside the club so I decided to just ignore him at this point until I heard him yell “that’s fucking it I’m gonna kill you n***a and pulled a knife out well lucky for me I had my ASP and the first strike I landed on him was his wrist with the hand holding his knife and the knife dropped to the ground then he tried to like jump and tackle me and before he could even move an inch I striked him again this time in his inner thigh area bout 6 inches below the groin area and after that he went down and looked up at me and started screaming crying and his girl got him up and took him outta there. To be fair I’m not a small dude though and with both hits I used full force and I’m 5’10” 200 lbs but muscular and not fat or overweight. 2 hits ended a fight where if I didn’t have the baton I very likely would’ve been stabbed and most likely killed without it. I think baton is best weapon for self defense besides a gun. Now big fixed blade knifes maybe able to compete like short swords or machetes or if you’re skilled some of the big cold steel knives but even then unless you have a long sword I would say you’re at a pretty big disadvantage if you have a knife and your attacker has a baton because you don’t even really have to be trained or practice with a baton to be proficient and effective with it sometimes even against skilled opponents or martial artists
ОтветитьThis is why we keep batons right. I’m going to give you law enforcement hint. We keep batons for self defense and non lethal but can be lethal purposes. Yes we are trained to hit meat areas… BUT!!! It not where you hit someone it’s the intent. If I aim after your calf and you decide to block it with your knee and shatter your knee cap… I’m getting off in court. Because the intent was your calf you decided to resist and…. Whoops. It’s not your usage but your report writing skills that will get you off every time 😊
ОтветитьVery informative on why it doesn't work for civilians. Great job😅😅
ОтветитьIf they take them from the police they'll take them from us and as a felon who cannot "own" guns it's nice to have a nonlethal option so shut the fck up
ОтветитьYou’re naturally funny. 😂
ОтветитьMaybe I’m just silly, but to me it’s just a stick. If you see someone coming at you and your options were to have a stick and not have a stick… I’m thinking most people want a stick. Yes, this one is metal and it telescopes out… but it’s just a stick. Saying someone doesn’t know about self defense because they want a stick sounds crazy to me.
ОтветитьWatch baton vs machete columbia
ОтветитьA video about nothing, he just rambles and swings his baton at his friend the whole video
ОтветитьI use mine often to clear broken glass with tint film on it. It isn't very effective at breaking the glass, but my knife has a tip on it for that. ;)
ОтветитьAs a deputy for 10 years. Now Shift Sergeant, Training Sergeant and FTO. I also don’t recommend batons.
And reasons you indicated are the reason I don’t allow them to be carried by my deputies.
Straight pain compliance rarely works.
Incapacitation through Taser Devices, OC, or just knowing basic grappling works much better.
Hitting someone while screaming commands does not work.
Either the hitting doesn’t work, or the complying doesn’t work. They will either continue to fight/run and still get hit. And if the comply, they’ve still been hit. And often by the time they have complied it’s because serious unreasonable injury has occurred.
Very few people will stand there and allow you to bash them. So you will end up fighting them anyway.
I agree completely that when a baton works, you’re overstepping the bounds of reasonable use of force.
Only thing a baton is good for is busting windows and still that only works half the time.
so a baton is a more convenient stick. Are you saying that a stick is not an effective weapon? Do you know the concept of force multipliers?
Ответитьin my defense , it effected if ur caring around 20 in baton.
1. im just tired of ppl stupidity
2. by the time police get there. the suspect is gone.add to all this , guy tryed robbed me before christmas .
2. on christmas , a guy try to start a fight with me .
when he saw the baton he back away.
this is what justice taste like.
Honestly if it wasnt effective military police wouldnt be issued them. On the same note escrema sticks knives knuckles and most force multipliers would also fall in the catagory of the baton if you were to use the same logic. The main goal of self defense is to not be in the situation where you need to fight anyways. But sometimes its unavoidable.
ОтветитьI saw someone get robbed and the dude who was getting robbed pulled out a baton instead of his stuff hit that dude in the mouth knocked like 4 of his teeth out
ОтветитьSaying something over and over doesn’t make it true. I didn’t hear much evidence as to why batons are so ineffective.
ОтветитьI am not a tough guy. I have never been in a fight in my life. I carry a baton just for self defense. I went to an ATM at 5 pm with my grandma (she was withdrawing money) and two guys approached us and told us to give them our money. I reacted instinctively and just whipped out my baton. They ran away. I do not know how to fight at all. If I didn't have my baton we would have been robbed or worse, my tiny 5'1 grandmother could have been hurt. This happened in Manhattan and we are Asian and our aggressors were black. I have no desire to act like a tough guy or use my baton on anyone but it was definitely worth having that day.
ОтветитьIt works great for brandishing? I've seen three men who were yelling hate speech in the face of a small black woman check themselves and walk away when that telescopic motion and sound drew their attention to what the self defense weapon of choice was, whereas brandishing a knife or a gun would have led to poor outcomes.
ОтветитьBlackjacks and saps should be legal, but I agree on expandible batons. They are incredibly destructive.
ОтветитьUtter nonsense. It all depends on whether you know how to use it or not.
Ответитьwhat about dogs?
ОтветитьWhy are the police even being talked about it here?
Ответитьthe only situation's I can think of a baton or any kind of bat or swung object beyond a rope being good for self defence is if it thrown to distract or used to make/clear an opening to flee. like make an enemy flintch/move or brake a door or window. Honestly a high powered blue light torch is better for self defence,
ОтветитьAren't all self defense tools a weapon?
I was told by an officer I personally knew that if I am stopped while carrying a knife. That I should say it is a tool, and not meant for defense. As that would admit intent to use on a person
The last time I drew a baton to defend myself, the criminal rammed it up my pooper and then made me watch as he pleasured my girlfriend.
ОтветитьI`d never carry one it shows that you ..at some point equalls intent.
ОтветитьIt is. It is not in the wrong hands.
ОтветитьI carry an ASP cause Im armed and were supposed to use nonlethal tools FIRST, before escalating to Deadly force
Ответитьit is a less than lethal tool. A gun is not always the answer
ОтветитьBullshit…when you realize that you are going to have to mount a self-defense, you must immediately go on the offense and go hard. THAT’s what weapons like that are for.
If anyone thinks a self-defense initiated fight ought to be fair or proportional, you need to just stick to your sport “martial arts”.
You’re right, it’s not a self defense tool…it’s a “give ‘em the hurt’in they’re deserv’in” tool.
ОтветитьIt seems crazy to me that using something as low key as a Baton for a legit, true self defense situation could be considered legal. If we are allowed to use something as straight up lethal as a gun for self defense, then why on earth would a Baton not be considered so?
If someone is straight up attacking or robbing you, you should be allowed to use whatever the hell is nearby to defend yourself. It's either you or them in that situation. Sometimes the law is completely illogical I swear...
YOU ARE AUWFUL
ОтветитьLoser
ОтветитьThis is ridiculous...like another said if you are in fear for your life you are not looking at circles.
ОтветитьQuit worrying about being an amateur lawyer, and worry about defending yourself. You definitely still are a cop, not anyone that should be teaching, or talking about self defense
Ответитьthe arguments in this video are so bad, and i usually love this channel :(
ОтветитьIt kinda sucks that it’s obsolete, I like sword fights
ОтветитьIt’s an advanced police stick, worked well since days gone by and if your squared away psy, you won’t abuse it. Know your self and limitations. I carry a mk9 appendix the 16” police force expandable is a better to have and not need but hey hey, sorry Si…
ОтветитьWhat are your thoughts on using a baton against a wild animal attack? Like a stray dog, coyote, bear, or mountain lion?
Ответить
