10 Cabins Cruisers (Almost) Always Regret Booking

Planning an Alaska cruise for June. Will I be able to sit out on my balcony (normally) or is it generally too cold to sit outside?

I'm currently book in a connecting cabin, is it really that bad? I don't want to have to call the cruise line and change the room due to price differences.

Aft balcony suite was the best place to be on panama canal transit. The whole workings of the canal was right in front of . Butler said we had the best view here. Also saw neighbors moving in with a lot of camera equipment.

We had a cabin once one deck below the cigar bar. Yuck.

Love the stern cabins,but NOT directly over a noisy lounge which didn’t quit until 1 AM. 2 or 3 decks above would have been perfect. The people on either side of us moved elsewhere. We didn’t as it was a short cruise and I wasn’t thrilled with carnival anyway. Just went with the ride. But was glad when the next door neighbor moved as he was a peeping Tom whenever I was in a swim suit on my balcony. It isn’t fun to have a strange man actually leering at you.

Do you have any videos about what is good about cruising? I think every video I've seen from you is all the bad things to avoid. What are the good things to go after?

I'm very sensitive to motion but it doesn't stop us booking the forward cabins. Not the front facing ones, because of the wind, but the ones towards the front of the ship. I'm going to be sick no matter where the cabin is, so the position in relation to motion doesn't much matter. I have to take meds to prevent it, so no big deal if the ship rocks about it puts me to sleep very quickly! Middle ship might suit some people but it can get noisy which is our main concern. The only time we booked a suite, my husband booked it and we ended up right under the main deck, with chairs scraping and elephants thundering up and down from 6am. Now I do the bookings and am very careful to check what is above, below and around us. We did once have a cabin above the main theatre, but it didn't disturb us at all. Our next cruise we have a balcony towards the front of the ship, but far enough away from lifts, stairs and the self-serve laundry for it not to be an issue. There won't be more than five or six cabins further forward and there are cabins above and below us.

Hi! Well, this is quite an education for me! I'm going on my first cruise as a solo traveler at the end of this month. I was booking a solo room with a virtual window, but they had a "special" where I could get a room with a balcony, couch, and small table with two chairs for less than the solo room. However, I was told that I couldn't choose the room. So, I guess I will find out and let you know! Wish me luck! I didn't know about the differences in rooms in relation to different areas of the ship. I will be traveling on the Norwegian Cruise Line Escape ship. I saw on a travel agent review that the solo virtual room area can only be accessed by key card and they have their own lounge or break room where you can meet other solo travelers. Per this agent, Norwegian does a good job catering to solo travelers. Another tip: I found out that Norwegian has a Military Appreciation Program (MAP) where active duty service members, veterans and their families can receive an additional 10% discount. I'm a veteran and didn't know that! When I alerted the cruise rep and IT rep, I was informed that I could enter it onto my profile for the next trip. It may be something other cruise lines do as well. Well, wish me luck, everybody! I'll let you know how it goes!

I recently returned from a cruise to the Bahamas, and because I needed a scooter to get around, I hade to get an interior cabin, I wasn't allowed to leave my scooter in the hall. My cabin had No Window or balcony so once in the cabin pitch black. This was my 2nd cruise and my worst. My first cruise on Royal Caribbean, had a balcony and I was able to leave my scooter in the hall at nite,and my cabin steward would have it charged up for me. This last cruise was on Carnival and it will BE MY LAST CARNIVAL CRUISE. I wish I knew how to have a cabin with a view, and my scooter inside with me. 😢

Can you suggest a cruise ship for first time with royal Caribbean that we want nice balcony room with slides, good food and nice shows like cirque du soleil style

I've just cruised on the Mein Schiff 2 (TUI, a German cruise line) - and it was the first time I did all the booking direct, rather than go through a travel agency (live in a small country with crap travel agencies), and while our cabin wasn't terrible, I was still annoyed at myself. I got a balcony cabin on deck 7 and the views weren't obstructed, and I could see the deck plan, and it looked fine.
Except I hadn't looked at the deckplan of deck 6, some cabins of which were obstructed by the lifeboats. And so we had the lifeboats directly underneath our balcony, and it was kind of annoying - though, silver lining, occasionally some seagulls would rest on them and we got some cute pictures!

Lesson learned - always look at the deckplans for the deck directly underneath yours! All I paid attention to is having cabins on top and cabins underneath, lol. I also saw a post on a facebook group I'm in - they got a cabin on deck 11, which was quite economical for a balcony cabin, but they'd forgotten one thing: deck 12 on all of the Mein Schiff ships is the pool and buffet restaurant deck. They were directly under the bakery, which meant that at 5:30 am every day they had their wake-up call!

I wish I had seen this in January.
We had a forward facing Club Suite on the Prima. Couldn't see anything at all except the sky 🤷🏾‍♀️. Oh well.

We just returned from a cruise to Greenland Caribbean Princess and stayed on the Lido deck in a interior cabin and loved it. I like that you can get outside easily .

We had an aft extended cabin on our honeymoon cruise. We liked it, except the sun was really intense compared to being on the sides of the ship. It really bakes you out there. This could be a great thing for people wanting to tan on the balcony, especially since that room came with an outdoor lounge chair.

When i book my cabin.I alway book a cabin on the the middle floor deck and middle of the ship.

Totally agree by avoiding balcony cabin in the levels above the outside smoking area. I was on deck 11 above a smoking area on Deck 5 and on calm days or port days the smell was strong. It was my first cruise, booked by a family member, and I totally loved it, but smoke aggravates my asthma.

Bacon or onions, unpleasant? Lies! 😂😂😂 I'd pay extra for that.

I have to say, I always use to get mid-ship cabins, but I don't like them. I rather be forward or aft, as the elevators are less crowded and less foot traffic. I am about to book a cruise for December and debating on whether to do a Dec 8, which is above the the theater. Everyone says that is not good but I wonder. Other wise I have to pay quite a bit more and go about to deck 14, which I tend not to like to high cabins. Thoughts?

I worked very hard all year to take this cruise in November on Celebrity X and nothing! not even noise is going to ruin it!
Some individuals are extremely picky but I’m not one of them.
A nice glass of wine 🍷 is all needed for a good night sleep.
After having so much fun all day I will be so tired I won’t hear the noise or smell anything I will be out like a lightning!😁
Like if you are spending lots of money on 🚢 cruises try to enjoy yourself because complaining too much, you are just creating your own misery.

What's amazing to me is some people actually complain about smelling bacon. If I'm on a cruise ship smelling bacon, that's a good thing.

I love the aft balconies, but, the downside to them is that they can be very hot. There was absolutely no breeze. All the wind was on each side of the ship.

Thank you for some great tips! We have had stayed in all four main categories of cabins - inside, ocean view, balcony, and suite. All were acceptable and some very nice. Our very favorite cabin was an aft-facing suite (Sky Suite) on Celebrity Reflection. We had a huge wraparound balcony and a very spacious cabin with lots of room, plus the suite perks of a dedicated dining room and bar/club. The only cabin we were unhappy with was a Princess balcony cabin with a sofa bed. The balcony was so tiny only two of us could sit out there at a time, and when the sofa bed was open, the entrance to the balcony was completely blocked. We will always try to book a suite when cruising Princess in the future.

No matter what, bring ear plugs. That goes for flying, hotels, and cruises. Even if you plot out your cabin as best as possible, there are still people walking in the halls, loud people above or next to you, etc. I pop in earplugs to sleep and block out any possible annoyances.

I regretted the cabin that I booked for a carnival cruise to Norway Fjords. I booked an obstructed balcony cabin. The fortunate thing about it is that the Norway cruise is so beautiful. I still got a good view of the mountains and sky.

I had a cabin that had noise from the theater. I got them to trade it for an inside one in a better location, unfortunately the thermostat in that cabin would not "communicate" with the in ceiling equipment. It was the worst experience ever. I got somebody else's problem that the maintenance people could not fix. I ended up using a shoestring and the hair blower for heat.

We had a celebrity cruise balcony cabin near the elevator that was wonderful for getting around the ship. Right now I am worried about a NCL Privisea balcony that we booked. I do not think we will be happy.
