boring snooze fest there was just no point or story to it the only part i liked was the tail at the end but could have just went to chaterbate for that

This movie was shockingly good. I’ve recommended it to family and friends, but for the most part, they’re not as bewitched by it as I am. I even have a Black Philip t-shirt, but not because I’m pro-Black Philip or anything!

I thought this was such a great movie - very dark and atmospheric. The filming and audio were fantastic and well done - well thought out. I love to watch this around Halloween time.

it's just so true to the old tales. so effective. the feeling is also very real. especially if you know about witchcraft and have delved in it. one of my favorites. I usually dislike horror but this was accurate, artistic and effective.

in a world full of dumb horror films like a ghost nun being the most popular, im glad gems like this exist

This was an excellent movie . The acting was phenomenal. I’ve never seen small kids play such a serious role . If you pay attention to the movie it’s actually really creepy . A little bit on the satanic side . But I’ll say it again , the acting by the entire family is insane .

Great movie. Very dark and really seemed cursed. Well done Robert Eggers! Still prefer the Lighthouse tho.
The whole cast was exceptional, but mostly the kid playing Caleb. Damn that scene with the apple was unsettling..

Still in my top 4 Horror films, alongside Hereditary, Midsommar, and The Ritual. Absolute masterpiece.

I know this movie gets a lot of hate. But I just don't agree. I loved every second of it. Its beautifully filmed and acted. The scenery, the music, the atmosphere, the story. It's all very well done.

This movie had potential, started good, had a good premise, but ended in a shit show, I feel that it’s only fair that we leave some real reviews as well.

This is based on a true story. During that time, the area experienced a few consecutive years of unusually damp growing seasons with very still air. This was perfect breeding grounds for ergot, a fungal infection that attacked rye grain, the staple crop of that time.

Ergot has two main alkaloid groups. Lysergic acid, which is LCD, which makes you experience powerful hallucinations. And the second group is clavine, which makes you experience as if invisible entities start crawling under your skin.

Combine all of this with the fact that back then they had no idea about any of that and at the same time were heavily religious, the results were what this film portrays.

The reason why pretty much only younger women experienced this? Back then, the biggest and most healthiest portion of the food went to the father, then the sons from oldest to youngest. Then the mother, then the daughters from oldest to youngest. This resulted in the youngest girls getting the worst quality rye and basically tripping heavy balls off of the psychoactive ergot that it contained.

This is fantastic, everything to the time period and that uneasy feeling called “ suspense “. Taste and originality, its refreshing to see movies like this and are still being made.
