Anthrax shouldn't have been on the list cause it caused gay - nu metal afterwards.

How is Voivod not a thrash band? I went to see them on the Dimension Hatross tour and at that time it was a given that they were a thrash band. All the standard thrash fans showed up, They had timing changes, double time beats etc.......

Flotsam and Jetsam is missing. Talk about having depth in the bench. DFTD and NPFD are both epic albums. No Place for Disgrace especially took thrash to a different place.
Metal Church rules, but I don’t think of them as thrash. They have lots of heavy songs, but they’re more power, speed,or just straight up metal.

I never think of Pantera as thrash. Groove is the first word that comes to mind when I think of them (Cowboys From Hell and after)

diffrence with thrash and speed metal. its simple. the simplicity of the chord progression borrowed from hardcore punk rock from 77-82. always going back and forth with a lack of chromatic key chabge. with drum beat between 140 to 160. soeed metal as simole rythmn and very classical inspired leads and solo... thrash taje the speed metal element and they shuffle the idea and began adding more compkicated partterm. key change in the prigression and passing notes. this open up more doirs during soloing. the drumming raises up. 166bpm been on the slow sides... other then these actual aspect of nusuc theory. they are a lot similar

I know this is 6 years old but I think Megadeth had elements of “groove” metal back as early as peace sells Devils Island ? RIP has groove almost breakdowns all throughout it. It’s no secret Dime loved Megadeth, maybe he took some of his groove from them or realized that he could take the triplet feel of Texas boogie woogie of ZZTop and thrash it up . I could also argue Megadeth were pioneers in rap metal with songs like Liar, but I’m a major Droogie so there’s that. Pantera I think were power metal on cowboys from hell but by Vulgar they weren’t thrash or power really but something completely different and they weren’t stoner doom but they have the influences, I can remember people describing them as red neck metal lol , they were heavier than thrash and more extreme to me at least.

Suicidal Tendencies touches punk also but with Rocky George, Suicidal was an absolute thrash band. 4 thrash albums that all went gold. Tell me any of these other bands can touch that.

During the episode you refer to the difference between speed metal and thrash. In 1981, when metal started to speed up with Maiden, Venom, Motorhead, just to name to few it changed in 1983. When you are 17, and Pat Robertson, the PMRC, and every TV Evangelist wants to remove your music from the face of the earth, you have to be careful on what lyrics or music your mother hears. So metal heads needed a way to tell each other how the music is. It all had speed, but eerie sounding, screeching riffs, with violent lyrics was thrash. Speed metal would be anthrax, metallica, anvil, accept, helloween, hallows eve, exciter, etc. Thrash came in with slayer, exodus, overkill, kreator. Lyrically here there is a wide difference. Exodus - Exodus, kick in your face, and rape and murder your wife. So you dub a new album for a buddy - careful this is thrash which meant headphones at home, and crank it in the car.

Thrash is my favorite Metal genre. Death Metal is a very close 2nd. I love Groove Metal like Exhorder and Pantera. Especially Exhorder 🤘 Exhorder's first album Slaughter In The Vatican is Thrash imo. It's one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. The Law is Groove Metal with a killer cover of Black Sabbath's Into The Void included as well. Great album. Their latest album Mourn The Southern Skies is a combination of both genres and it kicks ass. It really sucks that Vinnie LaBella left the band in 2020. Exhorder are supposedly working on a new album but I have no idea what to expect from it since Vinnie was the main music writer in the band with Kyle writing the lyrics.

I don’t relate at all to what this dude says about thrash. To me, metal was always about the melody first. Metallica and even Slayer played some amazing tunes on those earlier albums. Just making a noise seems like something anyone can do as long as you have some understanding of your instrument. I think this is why metal isn’t in the mainstream anymore.
