First race in beautiful Central Park for me in quite few years. Most likely the last one for me this year.
We are picking up action from the second lap (6 laps total, shorter route, not included Harlem climb) - I didn't know how long the race will last and was worried to run out of battery in the last few minutes so started recording a little later in the race.
I came in with an actual intension of winning it.
I had good legs - I tapered down and was fresh with good training leading to this race.
In the race itself I felt really good, I wanted to stay on the wheels in the front and go all out in the last lap or so. But plans can change in a heartbeat.
A breakaway formed in the 2nd lap (from about minute 3:00) and looking at it from the group it didn't look to me like they will last, it felt way too early. I wanted to save my matches to when it really matters.
I WAS WRONG 😒
No one in the pack was really committed for chasing, some riders that had guys in the break were blocking the front and slow things down. There were many surges and then coasting, which slowed the pace even further. Frustrating!
Realizing the race was up the road, I started being much more active with 3 to 2 laps to go with bridge attempts, attacks and chasing.
I figured I had nothing to loose, saving my legs for 7th place is not how I roll lol.
Managed to get away few times but either was blocked by teammates or didn't have the right compositing of riders with me.

Well, There's always next year.
